Being the daughter of a Mississippi State Senator was never great for a rebellious teenager and even worse for an eighteen year old counting down the days till she heads off to her first year of college. I couldn't wait to get out of the hell hole I had been living in. Life for me has always been complicated but the complications became worse year ago. See My father Nathanial Carmichael was elected to the state senate when I was fourteen but he has been a politician since before I was born. My whole life has been spent under a microscope and for the first time in my life I was about to be on my own. Or so I thought to bad daddy had different plans for his little girl.
Most senators don't have a full time detail but ever since my mom disappeared right after my dad was elected I can't take a pee without one offering me toilet paper. Only recently had dad stepped up the security around us. I was used to retired military and private bodyguards but seven months ago my whole life changed. With one phone call from my dad to an old friend at the bureau I got Mr. Perfect Agent as my full time shadow.
When Derrick first came on he was fresh out of the academy and still wet behind the ears. Meaning he wasn't a suit just yet he was still cool to hang out with and we even talked with me instead of down to me.
Derrick was the first person I enjoyed being around since my cousin Trey left for college. My life didn't make having friends easy. I couldn't attend parties like most kids my age the suits usually looked down on teenage drinking. Every time I tried to live a normal teenage life my dad would interfere. Derrick didn't allow the partying but he found other ways for me to feel somewhat normal.
Derrick never complained about going to the movies or following me as I shopped. He would pick on me about the movies I was seeing or the clothes I choose to buy but he never complained. He dropped me off at school every morning and picked me up every afternoon.
As the months went by we became really close. It started off with simple things like him finding a reason to brush up against me or move a strain of hair to touch my face. We were sitting in the theater sharing a bucket of popcorn when we both reached in at the same time. I pulled back my hand so he held a piece of popcorn up to my mouth. I opened my mouth and watched in pure amazement as he placed the single piece of popcorn on my tongue. Derrick didn't reach for another piece of popcorn instead he reached for my hand.
From then on it was a teenage girls dream. Never anything more than walking hand in hand or stolen looks but I enjoyed every minute. I didn't push for more because I knew the age difference could become a problem not to mention the fact he was hired by my father to keep me safe. What would happen if he knew how I felt about my new protector? What I felt for Derrick was more than a simple school girl crush I was falling hard for him. Derrick was the type of guy that only existed in movies and romance novels not in real life. His gorgeous green eyes went perfectly with his jet black hair. Not to mention the amazing body and the fact that he carried a gun for a living.
What started off as a friendship almost a year ago had now blossomed into something more amazing than I could have ever dreamed possible. Then one night everything changed it was the night of my senior prom I knew what it felt like to have your heart truly broken. I had searched for months for the perfect dress I towed Derrick to every dress shop in town and even some out of town and he never once complained. Not even when he was forced to watch me try on dress after dress and give his input on each one. He had ultimately made the decision on the one I choose. I will never forget the look on his face when I walked out of the dressing room wearing the full length red gown that was so tight it made breathing a real task.
I knew by his reaction that this was the one I wanted. It took Derrick a moment to collect his thoughts after I walked out. After several minutes of just staring at me he urged me to pick another dress. He said the dress was too much for a senior prom. At that time I just expected Derrick didn't want my father to blame him for the dress I had picked out. It was too late his first reaction made me feel too good to leave the dress at the store. But nothing compared to the reaction he had when he walked into my room the night of prom. I was standing in my bathroom just about to apply the last touch lipstick when I heard him call my name.
