Chapter 20
Bailey
Unexpected Opportunities
For days after receiving the text message from Leslie, I cried on and off. There were times when my dad would tell me a joke or my mom would keep my mind off of things with shopping, but my mind always ran back to that picture. It was like my body was shocked to a stand still and my mind was on a time freeze, forever stuck on the past. It taunted me, showing me that it was impossible to move on from the returning idiot who broke my heart.
The emotional days went on for a while, I suppose, until I was invited to a party by Annabelle. She told me it was high time I went out and was introduced to new places, new people and try new things. I honestly couldn’t blame her for pushing me so hard to get out of the house, seeing as though I haven’t left much at all in the past few years. The only times I did were for school, work and seeing Evan. But this time I knew I needed a fresh change in my life and I decided it was time for me to go and meet new people.
It would be a hell of a lot easier to get my mind off the stupid boy running circles around my brain.
“I’m here,” Annabelle sang as she let herself into my bedroom door without a knock.
I was lying on my bed, cuddled up underneath my purple duvet, staring off into the wall. My hair was a mess, seeing as I hadn’t really found the determination to get up and take a shower. I was wearing the same pajamas I went to bed with a few nights ago, and I hadn’t even taken the time to brush my teeth. It was probably a horrid sight for Annabelle to see.
“Jesus, Bails. You look like shit,” she noted, placing a bag full of hidden items onto the foot of my bed and taking a seat next to it.
“Thanks,” I muttered, not making eye contact with her.
“C’mon,” she said, tapping my leg with a hand. “Get your butt in the shower and get ready to go. We’re leaving in an hour.”
“An hour?” I groaned. “That’s not enough time to do anything,” I said, throwing the duvet off of me and raking a hand through my greasy strands.
“Oh it is. I can get you ready in half the time if you hurry up!” she yelled, hitting my arm. “Now go!”
I rubbed my arm where she hit it, frowning at her. “Fine, I’m going.”
After a relaxing warm shower, I wrapped a towel around my body and scurried towards my bedroom. Annabelle had laid a very revealing outfit out on my bed while I was gone and a few accessories to match. I eyed her warily.
“What is all this?” I asked.
She looked up at me with innocence plastered on her face. “An outfit of mine I’m letting you borrow for tonight. I picked out some accessories from your draw to match it, I hope you don’t mind.”
“That looks a little…revealing, don’t you think, Anne?” I asked carefully, pulling on underwear underneath my towel. I turned my back as I dropped the towel and put on a matching bra, waiting for her response.
“Not at all as revealing as mine might be,” she winked at me when I faced her again.
“I’m not trying to get molested tonight,” I noted, running my fingers across the fabric of the short skirt on my bed.
“I’ll be taking excellent care of you tonight, don’t worry. This is just to attract some much needed attention to your beautiful self while we’re there. You need it,” she explained, patting my back comfortingly. “Now get your butt in these clothes so I can fix your makeup and hair.”
I obeyed silently, with a scowl clear on my face. I wasn’t really up for partying at some unknown person’s home tonight. I’d much rather be swaddled up in my bed sheets and watching old romance films than be grinded up against by some pervert who wanted to ‘get it on.’
