The crowd is deafening and also annoying as I try to push through them to catch up with the rest of the group. We're currently trying to recruit a new student named Marcus Lopez. Headmaster Lin said it was imperative that he joins the school. I'm not really behind the whole idea as it just means more competition, but it also means I can score some points with headmaster if we can complete the mission successfully. The only information we were given was a picture of him, his name and where to find him, so we could bring him to the headmaster. Of course, none of us are stupid, so we all did are research on him. Marcus Lopez Arguello, 17 years old, homeless, and apparently a killer and arsonist. I don't know how truthful this information is, but the rest of the group seems to believe it.
I finally pass through the parade to the other side, where Billy is waiting with his skateboard and cigarette in hand. I scrunch my nose up at the smell, it bringing back bad memories. I shove those thoughts away.
"What's goin' on, sugar cube?" he greets me when I sidle up next to him against the brick wall. I give him a small smile in return and shove my hands in my pockets.
"Tired of waiting for this damn kid to come out here". After being out here for an hour waiting, all I want to do is go back to my room and study for my poison lab test in a few days then pass the fuck out. I hear Billy chuckle besides me while I continue searching the crowd for the new kid. I spot him stumbling through crowd looking whacked out of his mind. I can see the ring of red around his eyes all the way from over here. I nudge Billie to draw his attention to Marcus. He looks up and once he spots him he drops his skateboard onto the ground and takes off in Marcus's direction. I sigh out of my nose before slipping my daggers out from my sleeves and spin them in my hand before gripping them tightly.
I head back into the crowd to follow after the rest of the group who at this point are just tormenting the guy instead of capturing him like we were told to do. I shove past everyone in my way before coming to a stop next to Maria, in all of her painted glory. We look to each other and nod then take off in the direction he ran off to. I'm not to worried we'll lose him because Saya is to much of a tight ass to fail a mission. Either way we sprint in the direction he went off in. We come up to a parking garage to see Billy and Willie standing outside waiting for us.
"About damn time you got yo asses here" Willie says gruffly with his gangster attitude. I call bullshit on his whole act, but I'm not about to call him out just to be right. It's too much work and drama for me to deal with.
"Whatever, pendejo. We're here now aren't we" Maria sasses him while swishing her skirt around. I roll my eyes at their bickering and head in the garage without them.
"Come on, you guys. Master Lin has been waiting long enough and I don't feel like having my ass chewed out tonight" I say to them, trying to get them to listen to me for once. They grumble to themselves, but listen to me for once and follow. Billy is nice and listens to me anyway; he's probably my favorite because he's the one with the least ego. Once we enter the garage, I can already hear the screeching of Saya's motorcycle chasing after Marcus. Instead of running up rows of concrete, I instead walk to the elevator and push the button. The elevator doors open up and we all pile in. Willie presses the button to the top level and the doors close before going up. Some tacky elevator music plays in the background and, like some cliche, brings a semi-awkward silence with it. I breathe a sigh of relief when the doors open up to the top floor and I can finally leave the elevator.
We all exit and see Marcus watching wide eyed as Saya takes out a bunch of cops that had them cornered. Willie goes ahead and quietly sneaks up behind Marcus before shoving a bag over his head. Maria comes up behind and binds his hands tightly behind his back. At this point all the cops are knocked out on the concrete and Billy is laughing at all the commotion.
"C'mon crazy. I would like to go home tonight" I pat him on the back and head over to a struggling Marcus. All of the sudden, Willie shoves him into my direction and Marcus stumbles into my arms.
"You get to carry him back this time. We all did the hard work this time" he says to me while crossing his arms. I glare at him, but reluctantly clutch onto Marcus's arms and push him in the direction of the elevator. His jacket is disgustingly dirty, but his body is so warm. I wouldn't have guessed with him living on the streets. Anyway, I'd rather not start an argument with Willie at the moment when we're already late.
"Whatever, Willie. let's just get this over with" I sigh again and then we're all off to see the Headmaster.
