The street wound over the hill like a carelessly discarded belt, grey and cracked with age. On each side the houses were separated by yards large enough to accommodate farm animals, but this was no rural district. It was one of the wealthier areas of Central City, but today it looked more akin to the site of a bombing. There was debris all over the road that prevented anyone from getting in or out, and though the Justice League had tried to steer clear of the perfectly structured homes, that was a little difficult when fighting off a battalion of Gordanian manhunters sent by the Warlords of Okaara.
They had somehow managed to keep the attacking aliens isolated to this one location, but their advanced weapons and superhuman strength meant that there was quite a large mess to be taken care of. The most physically powerful members of the team always tried to stay behind to help clear the streets of destruction. Arthur currently had his hands tightened like vices around the front bumper of a bus that had been thrust into the ground floor of a small shopping centre and steadily pulled it free of the debris it had created upon its impact.
With strain clear on his face, Arthur dragged the battered vehicle out onto the street and lined it up on the side of the road, out of the way. He wiped the sweat from his forehead that had seeped through his skin after he cleared about twenty cars from destroyed buildings. The Gordanians had come to find Starfire once again but for some reason, they wound up in this random town on the wrong continent on the wrong hemisphere. Arthur figured that they maybe received the wrong coordinates.
The sound of straining metal made Arthur glance upward into the sky. He watched as Superman descended, both arms tensed as he carried a Gordanian dropship above his head like it was a laundry basket. Arthur could see severe burns on its hull, most likely caused by the ion blasts from a Green Lantern energy weapon. "I gotta talk to Hal about making sure the ships come down easy. This one crashed about a mile away, could've come down on top of someone." Clark said with a mild hint of exertion in his voice.
He slowly and carefully eased the vehicle down and settled it onto an empty parking lot. The thing was as wide as three train cars sitting next to each other and one and a half storeys high, but the Man of Steel showed no signs of fatigue after placing it onto the ground.
Arthur crossed his arms and replied somewhat sarcastically "Somehow I don't think it'll change anything. He prefers to shoot first, think later."
"Totally." The voice of Barry Allen called in agreement, sounding very much like he had something stuffed inside his mouth.
The pair turned to see the Flash sitting on the roof of the bus Arthur had recovered from the ruins, feet rhythmically thudding onto the metal as he swung his legs back and forth. In his hand was a rather tasty looking hot dog, and in his lap was a plastic tray containing what Arthur thought was four more. "Don't you have somewhere to be?" Clark joked.
"You're an alien refugee who has his own personal ice castle in the North Pole, a bunch of friends from the 31st Century, an alien super dog, an alien cousin who should technically be a decade older than you but isn't because of time-space and what have you, and yes let's not forget the fifth dimensional imp that sometimes shows up to mess with you by literally reshaping reality itself. And Arthur here is the king of a magical underwater kingdom and hangs out with mermaids all day long. Me? What am I up to later today? I have to go grocery shopping. Then pay my water bill. And my electricity bill. Oh and go renew my driver's license even though I never use the bloody thing. So please forgive me if I want to stick around and listen to how exciting your lives are."
