"What you're asking us to do...is allow a man to be killed." Superman said sternly as he crossed his arms. "You can't be serious."
Arthur said nothing, he only stared out the window of the Watchtower, and at the area of water where Atlantis would be.
"Clark. That monster murdered his infant child." Wonder Woman argued as she stood behind her chair, leaning on it with her muscular arms crossed. "That crime must be punished. And seeing as Atlantis is now recognised as a sovereign state, Manta must be subjected to their laws. The punishment for infanticide is the death penalty."
Hal Jordan nodded as he pointed at Diana. "Right. This is a matter of jurisdiction. It's no different to someone smuggling drugs to Bali and being executed. It doesn't line up with what we believe in...but that's how the system works, and it if it lines up with what their people believe...well, that's irrelevant. The fact of the matter is the Atlantean prince was murdered in Atlantean waters. He has to be punished the Atlantean way. Otherwise, we'd be standing in the way of the law."
"Of course you agree with that." Cyborg muttered. "You're a cop. You're meant to think like that. But this is a man we're talking about here. This isn't some metaphorical situation. This man has a son. The same son Aquaman wants to bring along to hunt down his own father. God knows I've had some hard feelings with my dad...maybe even feeling the same way Kaldur does. But to be taken along? To see that happen? It doesn't matter what you think Arthur, you are going to kill a man with a child."
Bruce stirred in his seat as he heard Victor's last words.
"You alright, Bruce?" Clark asked softly.
Batman promptly glanced up from the table and said "Hal's right." If the situation wasn't so morbid and terrible, someone would've poked fun at how Bruce was actually agreeing with Earth's first Green Lantern...so the quip never came. "We call ourselves the 'Justice League'. Justice is about the system. We all know how vastly that system can vary from people to people...but we don't break the system."
"Bruce. Do you think this man should be killed?" Victor asked bluntly.
The man sat there in silence for a handful of seconds. He then shook his head, his eyes glazed over as if he was reliving a past memory. "No." He whispered. "You want to make his son watch. You know I can't condone that."
Silence gripped the League's conference room after Bruce's answer. All the while, Arthur said nothing and did nothing. He only continued staring out the window. After a while, Clark coughed, exhaled then asked softly "Anyone else?"
Bastion leant forward. "I was forced to kill my own father. I stimulated his cerebral cortex until it burst. I didn't regret it at first, because I was told it was something I needed to do. Because I was raised by Nazi's, I absolutely believed...that it had to be done. Now that I've had a chance to experience other things and discover for myself what I truly believe in, I would give anything to undo what I did that day...not because I killed someone, not even because it was my own father, but because it was an unjust murder. This is different though. Arthur has a damn good reason for wanting vengeance. When I killed that man, I did it blindly and without reason. Arthur has a reason. I will not stop him if this is what he truly believes is right."
