It had been two years since he had bonded with Darkstalker, sometimes if felt like yesterday other times it felt like many years ago. It took him sometime to get use to seeing Darkstalker's face when he woke up every morning. After the first ten days he finally got use to it.
He and Kya had spent the last two years bonding with Darkstalker and Whiteout. Something they discover about a year ago was that they could read people's minds, which at first freaked the heck out him and Kya. Being able to constantly hear what others were thinking was very unsettling. He and Kya had trouble trying to keep it under control, but they didn't know how to block out people's thoughts. Darkstalker and Whiteout didn't know how to block or stop it either.
He and Kya also discovered that they could see the future, it wasn't like they could see what was going to happen the next day. They pretty much just got visions when it was something really important. A vision they got that saved the entire village was of the terrible snowstorm about thirteen months ago. It would have hit them before they even knew it was coming; they saw it about a month before it happened. Most people didn't believe them when they said, but their father made everyone take precautions just in case they were correct. They had been correct about the snowstorm and many people were grateful, if they hadn't told anyone then most of them probably would have got snowed in or got sick and could have died.
It's been twenty-four months and Darkstalker and Whiteout were finally two years old, and they were ready to go to the Rider Base. Which meant that Anaba would be coming to pick them up in a week or two.
He and Kya, meanwhile, we're going to go try and fly around on the dragons.
The plan was to go to a mountain out of sight from the village and jumped off the mountain on the dragons. Darkstalker and Whiteout didn't approve of the so called "Crazy Plan" of theirs. He and Kya just kept pestering them nonstop for about two weeks till they finally said yes to their "Crazy plan".
They were walking towards the mountain they picked out. While he was walking he looked over at the five foot tall and fifteen foot long dragon walking next to him.
Korren and Kya were eight years old and Darkstalker and Whiteout were about a foot taller than them from what he and Kya guessed.
The reason they wanted to go flying was because the dragons could already fly and because they also wanted to know how too. Their plan was crazy and dangerous but probably the best way for them to learn how to take off and fly with extra weight.
"This plan is still crazy and dangerous you know that right," Darkstalker said to him.
"Ya, but it will be fun, you never know. And besides will at least have a start on flying together." He said to him.
"Your still insane you know that don't you?" He said to him again.
"Ya, so what. You chose me, if I'm too crazy for you why did you chose me?" Korren asked him.
"I don't know why, it just felt right," Darkstalker answered.
He thought about that for a minute, thinking about what Darkstalker saw in him that felt right to him.
"We're here!" Kya exclaimed. When she said that Whiteout let out a little whine in protest.
Him and Kya both knew that she hated the plan and thought it was overall extremely dangerous.
"Oh come on, it will be fine, I promise," Kya said to Whiteout.
"Let's get going then," he said.
"Were going to die," Darkstalker said to them all.
"No were not. If we were going to die then you would have had a vision about it to stop us."
Darkstalker just grumble under his breath saying things he couldn't understand.
"See I told you this was the perfect place," he said to them.
   "You were right," Kya said.
"Well Darkstalker ready to try it?" He asked him.
   "No," he responded.
"We'll get over it we're doing it anyway." He told Darkstalker.
He climbed onto Darkstalker's back and put his legs in front of Darkstalker's shoulders. He grabbed onto his down neck spikes and squeezed his legs tightly. Hoping to Suka that he was holding on tight enough.
Darkstalker walked up to the edge of the cliff, and opened his wings letting the air push them up. He lowered himself into a crouch, his wings still open, and jumped, pushing hard off the ground. He flapped his wings hard, trying to get higher and stay in the air. "Wow." He said breathlessly. "This is amazing!" He yelled aloud.
"It is. It really is beautiful, being up here makes me feel free. But it makes me feel even more free with you up here with me." Darkstalker said to him.
"Kya you have to get up here!" He yelled to her over the flapping of Darkstalker's wings
"Okay!" She yelled back to him.
He watched as she did the same thing as he and Darkstalker did.
Once she and Whiteout were up in the air, all four of them took off in the opposite direction of the village.
As they flew over the snow covered ground, Korren saw the horizon and the very edge of the sea. He had never been able to see the sea before and they barely been flying for even a minute. Strange he thought.
After about fifteen minutes of flying he could feel Darkstalker getting tired.
"Hey I think Darkstalker needs a break!" He called to Kya over the roaring wind.
"Ya, I think Whiteout needs a break too!" She said back to him.
They started to descend slowly towards the ground.
Once they landed, and Korren and Kya had gotten off the dragons, the dragons collapsed from exhaustion.
"Are you alright?" Korren asked Darkstalker with worry in his voice. Korren was worried and scared that he had over worked Darkstalker by making him fly with him on his back.
He looked over at Kya and Whiteout. Kya had worry and fear etched into her face.
"What should we do?" She asked him, sounding extremely worried and scared.
"I-I don't know," he said.
"What if we pushed them too hard." Kya fretted to him with fear in her voice and in her face and eyes.
"We should go get help," he said.
"But we can't leave them here and it will be dark by the time we get back with help. And even if one of us stay behind how are we going to stop polar bears from attacking us and the dragons." Kya said to him.
"I don't know. We just have to risk it." He said.
"You really want to risk their lives?" She said to him.
"No, I don't want to. But we got to get help." Korren responded.
They then heard the sound of crunching snow, and they both turned towards the sound of the crunching snow. A cloaked figure appeared out of the fading light, walking towards them.
The figure was dressed in heavy winter clothing and a heavy winter cloak that obscured there face from view. Making it hard to tell if they were friend or foe.
The figure stopped about ten feet from them. Darkstalker and Whiteout growled at them threateningly on the ground. They were trying to push themselves up to a standing position but they were too tired.
"What a pleasant surprise, I was just on my way to pick you up and bring you back to the Rider Base." The figure said to them, with a masculine sounding voice. But the cloak muffled there voice making it hard to tell.
"Who is this?" He asked Kya and the dragons.
"I don't know, but they don't really sound like a girl. So it can't be Anaba." Kya said to him and the dragons.
The figure then moved a little closer, earning an even louder and more threatening growl from Darkstalker and Whiteout. Who had just managed to push themselves up to a sitting position.
"Get away from them now!" Darkstalker yelled loudly in his head.
Korren staggered back a little bit, and grabbed Kya's hand and pulled her back towards the dragons.
The cloaked figure moved closer till they were now five feet apart.
The figure then earned the most threatening growl from Darkstalker Korren had ever heard.
"Don't worry children I am here on Anaba's orders to bring you to the Rider Base." The masked figure said.
"Anaba said she would come get us," he said to the figure.
"She's busy so she told me to come and get you. Now if you follow me I can take you back to the Rider Base."
"Don't go! Don't follow them! They are not who they say they are!" Darkstalker yelled in his head making sure he heard him.
Korren thought about what Darkstalker said and thought why the person wouldn't show them his face to show them that they could trust him. Or way didn't he give them a letter to show their parents, or tell their parents they we're leaving with this man. Or prove to them that Anaba signed a letter telling them to go with this man. The more Korren thought about this and Darkstalker's words the less he trusted this man.
"Well what are you waiting for, let's go. Anaba's waiting for you."
"N-n-no." Kya said to the man in a quiet voice.
"What did you say?" He asked her.
"N-n-no." She said again in a quiet voice. "What?" He said sounding irritated.
"She said no!" He yelled at the man.
"What did you say boy?" He said threateningly and angrily.
The man looked at them and then looked back the way he came, and then he lunged forward and grabbed Kya.
"Aaaaaah!" She screamed as he pulled her in front of him. She continued screaming and started kicking him. He didn't seem to notice or care.
"Let her go!" Korren growled at the man.
"I will when you and those two beast get over here and come with me without a fight or I'll hurt her." The man said to him in a threatening tone.
Korren started forward thinking of nothing to do but to surrender and escape later. He had barely taken a step and felt something snag the back of hood on his parka. He looked over his shoulder and saw that Darkstalker had a hold on his hood, not letting him take another step.
"Let me and Whiteout handle him. He's dangerous and unpredictable, he's not to be trusted." Darkstalker let go, and he and Whiteout walked towards the man and Kya.
"What do you think you're doing? Trying to get her hurt?" The man said, he then drew his sword and pressed it to Kya's throat. "Stay back or I'll kill her right now."
It had grown dark and started snowing while they were out there.
Darkstalker had slinked away into the inky darkness while the man was watching Whiteout trying to get closer.
The man had just realized that Darkstalker had disappeared, and was looking around for him while carefully watching Whiteout and keeping a firm grip on Kya.
"Where is he!" The man bellowed at Korren.
Whiteout then attempted an attack on him. The man  saw it coming, and slashed at Whiteout, forcing her to retreat.
She hissed at him, and raised the spikes on her back in a menacing way.
"Wow, real scary, you little beast," the man said to her.
While he was distracted by Whiteout, Kya threw her head up and hit him in the jaw. He loosened his grip on her, allowing her to wiggle free. She then ran towards Korren but the man was right behind her.
He threw a knife at Kya and it hit her in the leg. She fell to the ground with a cry of pain.
Whiteout attempted an attack on him again. She ran at him, and reared up on her hind legs to slash at him with her claws.
The man was too fast, and slashed her white underbelly, from her right bottom rib cage to the top of the left of her rib cage.
She fell backwards on to her back in pain, dark blue blood soaking the snow where she was on the ground.
Korren ran forward to help Kya, but the man got there after he did. He stood in front of them with his sword drawn.
Korren tried to punch him, but the man avoided it, and kicked him hard in the gut. Korren fell onto his back, staring up at the man with his sword pointed at his chest. The man turned his sword around with the pommel facing Korren's face.
He then felt a sense of strength and agility.
The man tried to hit him with the pommel, but Korren rolled out of the way super fast.
Korren then kicked out blindly, to his surprise he kicked the man in the shin.
The man retaliated by kicking him in the ribs, rolling him over onto his back.
The man had his pommel ready again clearly not going to miss a second time.
Then he heard a super loud crunching noise, the man looked around, looking for the source of this noise.
Then he saw Darkstalker running at top speed towards the man, looking ready to rip him apart.
The man saw Darkstalker before it was too late to stop him.
Darkstalker reared up on his rear legs, and slashed at the man's chest. Knocking him down on the ground with blood trickling from his chest. Causing him to drop his sword.
Korren got to his knees, his ribs screaming in protest, he grabbed the sword, and got to his feet, and pointed it at the man on the ground being circled by Darkstalker.
"I'm going to kill you boy!" The man roared at him.
The man got up, and ran at Korren, but was tackled to the ground by Darkstalker.
Darkstalker was about to rip his throat out, when the man said, "Thrysta vindr." Darkstalker was thrown back about twenty feet, he landed on his forearm funny, and roared out in pain.
The man's hood and face mask had fallen off during Darkstalker's attack to revel a middle aged man with brown hair and dark eyes.
There was a savage look about him that made Korren's skin crawl.
His grip on the sword was slipping. He didn't know if he could kill a man who had just thrusted a dragon about twenty feet away.
The man started moving towards to him, then a black blade appeared out of his chest, stopping him dead in his tracks.
When the man feel down to his knees a woman he immediately recognized appeared behind the slowly dying man.
"A-Anaba...." the man said, and then started wheezing.
"Hello magician of Galbatorix. Where's your master? Being a coward and hiding in his castle that he stole." Anaba said to the man, her words laced with venom.
"How dare you! You a-are not to s-speak i-ill of m-my king! You traitor!"
"I'm a traitor!?" She demanded. "Galbatorix killed all the Alageasia Dragon Riders! He's the traitor and so are you!" She yelled at the man.
"He o-offered y-you the chance to b-be his top g-general in his army. B-b-but you turned him down, and said you would kill him! And you almost did kill him! Y-you're the traitor, you opposed his r-rule." The man said to her.
"That's because he's a tyrant and deranged! He destroyed everything the Riders built! He turned four of our own against the Erdas Riders! I'll kill you for insulting me, and send your head to him in a box!" She roared at him.
Korren just watched this all go on while he was at Kya's side trying to stop the bleeding with a piece of cloth from his parka.
Anaba and the man then continued talking.
"Well Galbatorix will be glad to know," he wheezed again, "that y-your r-rebuilding," he coughed blood coming out of his mouth when he did, "t-the Riders, more," he coughed again more blood coming up this time and dribbling out of his mouth, "m-more young R-Riders for h-h-him." He said, and started laughing insanely, and then he started coughing so bad that blood kept coming out of his mouth.
When he finally stopped he took his last breath, and his body started slumping downwards as the light faded from his eyes, leaving then glassy and empty.
Anaba pulled her sword out of his chest, letting the body fall face down into the snow. Turning all the snow around the body crimson.
"Are you four all right?" Anaba asked with worry in her voice.
He just nodded still shocked from what he had heard and seen. But he then remember Kya, Whiteout, and Darkstalker.
"I-I mean Kya and Whiteout got cut from his sword and Darkstalker got thrown back by something." He said to Anaba.
"Okay, I'll go help Kya and Whiteout. Can you go see if you can find Darkstalker. If you don't want to I can go look for him after I help Kya and Whiteout." Anaba said to him getting down on one knee and putting her hand on his shoulder and looking into his eyes.
To be honest he was scared to go looking for Darkstalker after what had just happened with the whole attack from the man, now dead, empty body laying on the ground.
He looked over his shoulder into the inky blackness. Thinking of Darkstalker somewhere out there in the dark, lying there hurt and scared for Korren and not being able to do anything.
"It's okay I'll help you find him after I help your sister and Whiteout." She said to him, it was like she read his mind. Which scared him to think that she could read his mind. He shudder at the thought and pushed it away and focused on the matter at hand. He just nodded.
She got up and walked over to Kya and Whiteout. Kya's leg was bleeding pretty bad, her whole left was soaked in blood. Most of blood was coming from her thigh, from what Korren could tell. The snow around Kya and Whiteout was crimson and dark cobalt from the spilled blood.
Anaba said something strange that sounded like the same language the man used earlier, "Waise heill." Kya's leg then stopped bleeding. Anaba then went over to Whiteout and did the same thing, her wound healed just like Kya's.
Kya and Whiteout got up to help them find Darkstalker.
After a few minutes Korren saw a dark shape and thought that it must be Darkstalker. They made their way to the dark shape that turned out to be Darkstalker.
Darkstalker was lying on the ground with his left forearm looking crooked, and whining in pain.
Korren got on his knees by his head and cradle his head in his arms.
Anaba got down on her knees and touched Darkstalker's arm very gently, and said, "Espikey."
Darkstalker's arm then straightened out. He got to his feet, and tested his former broken forearm on the ground, and bowed his head in thanks to Anaba.
Korren got up, and felt relief flood through him knowing that Darkstalker was ok.
"You were right not to trust that man," Korren said to Darkstalker.
"Your welcome little warrior," Darkstalker said to him.
   "But I'm not a warrior."
"You are to me," Darkstalker said to him.
"Okay lets go," Anaba said to them, walking in the opposite direction of the village.
"But what about our parents," Kya said to her. "Can't we say goodbye to them."
"We'll go say bye and grab the things you want to bring along," Anaba said to them.
"Thank you," Kya said to her.
"Your welcome," Anaba said back to her.
He and Kya then started walking in the direction of the village, but they then heard a sound like thunder. They looked up and a ginormous dark shape was descending next to Anaba.
He and Kya both looked up at the giant dragon in amazement.
"This is Hakan, I couldn't bring him last time because it would've drawn attention to your village. Besides he can't normally stand this temperature like they can," she said, gesturing to Darkstalker and Whiteout. "But with a little bit of magic he's protected from the cold."
"Wow he's big," he said, even Darkstalker looked amazed at Hakan's size.
"We will be riding to your village. It will be quicker and much safer than on the ground," Anaba said.
Hakan crouched down for them so they could climb on with help from Anaba.
Kya sat in front, he sat in the middle, and Anaba sat behind him, with the dragons on Hakan's massive back behind Anaba.
Once they were all on Hakan he opened his mighty wings, and pushed hard off the ground and flapped his massive wings, that sounded like thunder every time he flapped his wings.
Darkstalker and Whiteout watched the ground move past them as they looked over Hakan's side. While he and Kya watched the horizon for the village.
In about eight minutes they saw the village, and Hakan started descending slowly towards the ground.
They landed about fifty feet from the village in the shadows.
Hakan crouched down again so they and the dragons could get off.
Once they all got off they started walking towards the village, except for Hakan, who would draw too much attention.
When they made it to their parents igloo they were greeted by their mother and father.
"Where have you been? We been worried about you! Kya what happened to your leg?" Their mother said sounding scared and angry.
"Uhh.... we got attacked by a crazy man who then attacked Kya, but Anaba killed him and healed Kya's leg," he said to their parents.
Their parents looked shocked and frightened after what Korren had just said to them.
"I promise you that the man who attacked your children paid with his life." Anaba said to their mother and father.
"Who did this man work for?" Korren heard his father ask Anaba.
"This man worked for the Mad King, Galbatorix," Anaba replied to his question.
"W-Who is G-Galbatorix?" Their mother asked.
"Galbatorix is a tyrant who rules over Alageasia. Alageasia is not on any maps because it is hidden from view by a massive fog that surrounds the continent," Anaba said.
Korren's parents looked at Anaba like she was crazy after what she just said, but they didn't say anything else.
"This very true what I just told you, which is why I now must take your children to the Rider Base to learn how to defend themselves in battle and learn how to use and control their magic."
"But they are just children. Wait till their at least 10 or 12," his mother pleaded.
"I know they are, but they were chosen by Darkstalker and Whiteout, and are now part of something bigger than themselves, bigger than all of us," Anaba said.
His mother had tears welling up in the corners of her eyes, and she then leaned into their father while he tried to comfort her.
"I'm really sorry, but once they've finished their training they can come back to visit you." Anaba said in a gentle voice.
"We'll be okay mom, I promise," he said to his mother touching her arm.
Then unexpectedly their mom grabbed him and Kya and pulled them into a crushing hug with their father.
Korren and Kya then went into their childhood home for the last time till they came back to visit.
They grabbed what they needed or wanted and put it in separate knapsacks. They put their knapsacks on and went outside, and said their final goodbyes to their parents.
They followed Anaba back to Hakan, and climbed on, and Hakan once again jumped into the dark, snowing sky. Korren was finally on his way to the base of the Dragon Riders, he felt happy and sad at the same time.

P.S. If you read the Inheritance cycle then you know about Galbatorix and the Ancient Language and Alageasia, hope it makes since if not you can look it up or read the books. Espikey is a spell from Harry Potter, it fixes cuts and broken bones. Again hope you all like it and that it makes since.
