It was Saturday morning, and they had no classes today except for Flying Practice and Battle Training. So Kya could sleep in. She spelt till the sun was four hours from noon.
She got up and dressed, and went down downstairs and saw a letter on one of the tables.
"It's addressed to you." Whiteout said to her looking at the letter on the table.
She walked over to the table and picked up the letter, and saw another one underneath it addressed to Korren. But there wasn't one there for Nimue unless she already woke up and read it.
"You should probably go wake up Korren. Who knows how important this letter is. And who knows how long Korren he'll sleep." Whiteout said to her.
"Your right, he'll probably will sleep till noon if I let him." She said to Whiteout with a wry smile.
Kya walked over to the Boys staircase. She opened the double doors and walked up the spiral, stone staircase. At the top of the staircase the circular room was like the Girls. She opened the double door with a banner of a black dragon with stars on its wings, and entered.
She saw Darkstalker curled up his soft, round bed, that was the softest thing Kya had ever felt.
She saw Korren sleeping in his bed, on his side, his back to her.
She walked over to him and shook his shoulder.
He groaned and mumbled, "Just five more minutes mom."
"Uh, I'm not mom Korren."
"Are you sure? You sound just like her." He said sleepily.
She signed and said, "Yes, I'm sure. Now get out of bed, it's four hours till noon, and besides there's a letter downstairs addressed to you."
She signed again, irritated that Korren could be stubborn sometimes.
She grabbed his arm and tried to pull him out of bed. But she was at a disadvantage since Korren had always been more muscular than her from pulling seals with the other kids who went along hunting with their fathers.
"Let me." Whiteout said walking over to the bed, and pushed Korren off the bed with her head.
There was a low thump as Korren hit the floor.
"Oww!" Korren exclaimed, using the bed to pull himself up. "You didn't have to shove me out of bed." He said, now standing.
I didn't. Whiteout did." She said, barely containing her laughter, looking at Korren with his black hair sticking up everywhere, like spikes. He looked like he just walked through a wind storm.
Her older twin brother looked at her then whiteout, and then shook his head. "All you girls are if trouble." He said to them.
"Ya, well all you boys are is a nuisance."
"Well that's not very nice." Korren said, brushing down his spiked up hair.
Kya glare at him, and then said, "There's a letter downstairs for you, and I say you better open it now."
"Why?"
She signed and then said, "Because you don't know how important it is. If it is important and you don't open it now then there will probably be consequences."
"Fine." He said, giving in. Then grabbing the bottom of his tunic and he lifted it over his head. Reveling the muscles he earned pulling seals and his two years being boned with Darkstalker.
She quickly turned around, and said to him, "warn me next before you decide to undress."
"You said I should go open my letter now."
"Stop turning own words against me!" She yelled at him.
Then she marched out of the room with Whiteout behind her.
"In the name of Suka! I can't believe he acts like that sometimes! Why didn't he wait till we were out of the room to start undressing?" She complained to Whiteout, half conscious of what she was saying.
"Just calm down Kya. Think about something calming, like the sight of soft snow slowly falling from the sky." Whiteout said to her, filling her head with a familiar scene from her memories of a beautiful night, of the six month eternal night, with the Northern Lights dancing across the night sky. She and her people believed that the lights were the spirits of their ancestors; watching over them. A light snow was falling from the blue, green, and purple sky; bright, silver stars dotted the night sky.
She let Whiteout keep this image in her head till she finally felt calm, and sorry for the wrongs she said about Korren.
"Do you feel better now?" Whiteout asked her.
"Yes, thank you, I needed that." She thanked Whiteout.
"Your welcome, and besides who's going to keep you calm when you and your brother are arguing like a pair of polar bears fighting over a seal corpse."
What Whiteout said made her laugh so hard she doubled over.
"Is what I said really that funny?" Whiteout asked.
Regaining her composure she said, "The fighting like a polar bear part." Thinking about how she and Korren fought in the past was pretty true. It would sometimes get so bad that their parents had to hold them in the air while they screamed and kicked at each other.
The sound of claws clicking on stone drew her back to reality thanks to the amazing hearing she gained through her bond with Whiteout; along with strength, agility, eyesight, and more flexible than the average person, a good resistance to cold and a good grip, as she and Korren discovered when Anaba first made them climb to the twenty foot high rock ledge.
Korren appeared from the Boys staircase, along with Darkstalker, and they walked over to the table and Korren picked up his letter and broke the wax seal on the letter and opened it.
Kya did the same, and read the letter.
It said: Dear Kya and Whiteout,
I want the both of you to meet me on the Training Grounds at ten o'clock this morning for something important. I will tell you more about our meeting in person.
Sincerely, Anaba, leader of the Erdas Dragon Riders.
After she read it a two more times, with Whiteout looking over her shoulder.
"What do you think this is about?" She asked Whiteout.
"I don't know, but hopefully it will be good, not bad."
She nodded in agreement, hoping that she and Korren weren't about to get in trouble with Anaba.
"If you were both in trouble then the meeting would be held in Anaba's study and the only reason I can think of you two getting into trouble for is you and Korren fighting like deranged polar bears."
"True, and we don't fight like deranged polar bears. At least not all the time."
"Ok, whatever you say, but you know you can both be as ferocious as polar bears when you fight. I bet even a urgal would be scared of you two when you fight." Whiteout said to her, confusing her when she said urgal. She had no idea what the heck a urgal was.
"What's a urgal."
"I'll tell you about them when we earn about them in History." Whiteout said.
Kya shrugged and said, "I'll just look them up in the library."
"Ok, fine with me."
Kya then walked out of the dormitory with Whiteout, and Korren and Darkstalker close behind.
They entered the Great Hall, for breakfast. They saw no one in the ginormous hall except for Sapphire, Mako's dragon.
"Good morning young ones." Sapphire said to them, directing her thoughts into theirs.
This still unsettled her when one of the Elder's dragons would talk to them through their minds. She was only used to hearing Whiteout in her head; not others.
"Hello Master Sapphire." They responded, directing their thoughts at the aura of Sapphire's mind.
Then they sat down and ate breakfast, and then they went back up to the dormitory to wait for their meeting with Anaba. When it was finally ten o'clock, the time for them to meet Anaba, the four of them went down to the Training Grounds, and found Anaba waiting for them.
"Good morning." Anaba greeted them.
"Good morning Master Anaba." The four of them replied.
Then clasping her hands in front of her, she said to the four of them. "I've asked you all here today because of something I need to tell you. And also to ask you to do something."
Kya wondered what Anaba wanted to tell them, but she guessed Anaba knew or found out about their prophetic and mind reading abilities.
"Do you all know about your mind reading and prophetic abilities?" Anaba said forthrightly.
Kya hesitated when Anaba said that, but then nodded along with Korren and the dragons.
Anaba nodded and said, "Good. Have you all been having any trouble with it in the past and the present?"
Kya thought of all the trouble her mind reading and vision-nightmares had caused her and admitted to Anaba. "Yes, a few days after bonding with Whiteout and Darkstalker we've been hearing voices in our heads and couldn't get them to go away.we also sometimes have visions, and have a difficulty deciphering them."
Anaba looked at the four of intently before saying , "Will you please recount your visions you all have had."
Kya and Korren, along with help from Darkstalker and Whiteout when they forget something, recounted their visions of the deadly blizzard, that would have crippled their village if they hadn't prepared.
Korren told his vision about a familiar looking man stealing a baby from Anaba, and who he know recognized as Mako, Bolin, and Kala. And the familiar man bring captured a few weeks later.
Then Kya told Anaba about the visit Galbatorix payed her in her dreams.
Then lastly Korren spoke of a dream he had of the familiar looking man talking to a man named Galbatorix and that a man named Rumplestiltskin said that he had something terrible in store for the Riders.
