He wants to grow up so fast.
Wants to drive and date and drink.
Slow down, kid, take it easy.
You've got plenty of time to live.
Wants to go flying down the freeway
But he isn't steady on his feet.
Just a small one, only fifteen.Sixteen can't come fast enough.
He can almost taste the freedom
Of driving and taking himself places.
Thinks about all he could do:
Get a job and
Drive around town
With his girlfriend in the passenger seat.Sixteen comes and he still wants more.
Eighteen might be better,
Thinks of what the world
Has in store.
But what about then?
How will he feel when he
Makes it there?Wants to be his own man.
Go to university, maybe meet a girl.
Better himself and experience all he can do.
Pump the breaks, dude, it's gonna fly by
If you don't stop to look around before
You go from this place. There you go, you made it
How does it feel?
Not good enough yet, maybe when
Twenty-one rolls around, it'll be better.
He's all grown up now.
Old enough to vote and smoke, but
Gets turned away when he wants to party. It's never enough, he still feels like a kid.
How's he gonna feel when there
Isn't anything left to accomplish?
Don't grow up yet, boy, don't leave.
Take your mom out to dinner
Or play with your baby sisters.
Enjoy this moment and just breathe.Yeah, life's cool and it's a hell of a ride
But it's also terrible and beautiful
So take it as it comes.
Don't get swept away in dreams or wishes.
Fix a car with your dad
Teach your brother to play guitar.Sixteen will come, keep fifteen close
Play video games and hate high school.
Complain about those small things
That you won't even remember
When you're gray and old.
Build a life you're proud of
And make sure your story gets told.
