Lucille was pulling on her dark skinny jeans when she realized...they were tight. So tight she couldn't button them. She looked at herself in the mirror and noticed it immediately.
Holy... her eyes zeroed in on it. She was showing. She had only been pregnant for about a month and a half. And the bump was clearly visible.
She pushed the jeans down her legs, shrugged off her t-shirt, and bra. She stood naked in front of her bathroom mirrors, under the lights. She poked her stomach curiously. It was hardly visible, and yet...it looked big.
That was what Thaddeus walked into. He had arrived home from a latent meeting with a fellow alpha, Wren. He was having...problems with his mate. She was apparently alleged to have had sexual intercourse with other men. She wanted a splitting. Even in his head, he choked on the words. A splitting was similar to a divorce. A tradition that Thad learned was very common. He scoffed. A splitting was dangerous. It required a separation of souls. It was painful, and could very likely kill the participants.
His friend was heartbroken. Wren was a nice guy. Thad and Wren grew up together, since they were pups. Their parents were friends, and often clumped them together. Wren met Bridget when they were teenagers. They were very much in love. When he met Bridget earlier, though, he was confused. Bridget had been very aggressive towards Thad. She had never showed interest in him before, and now suddenly was throwing herself at him. He thought back to their previous conversation.
"Mm, Thad. You're looking delicious."
Thad could see how a male would find her attractive. She had blonde hair, but it was the wrong shade. She had brown eyes that Thad found boring, and muddy. She was tall, and lean. Thad felt his lip curl in disgust. He didn't even respond to her.
"Thaddeus. Don't ignore me! We grew up together. Don't tell me just because you found your little mate that we can't have a little fun. Joey liked me well enough."
Thaddeus felt the contempt (as well as bile) rise in his throat.
"Did you ever love Wren? Or was that just some act?"
She considered it for a moment. She felt like she could have. Wren was just so safe. He was a softy, and she grew bored. Thaddeus was enticing. Even more so than Joey. She wanted him. She placed a manicured hand upon his shoulder, rubbing down to his chest. Almost immediately her hand was thrown back at her. She was startled. His face...the expression was terrifying.
"Don't touch me. I wouldn't touch you willingly if you paid me. My mate is a goddess. You are trash. You make my stomach turn. Wren could have done better."
As he started to turn to yell for Wren, he noticed a hand fly towards his face. He let her hit him. She struck him across the cheek, not even hard enough to turn his face. He was about to hurt her when Wren interrupted.
"Get out, Bridget. We aren't together. And don't bother hitting on males who will be faithful. You wouldn't know the meaning of faithful, would you?"
Her face flamed, and she left, but not without bidding them with last words.
"I never liked either of you, anyways. I'm with Joey now. He'll send for my stuff, Wren. We'll discuss the splitting next week."
And with that, the wicked witch was gone. Wren stared after her. He remembered her when they were in love. When she loved him, and wanted him. And now, she shared what was supposed to be his with the neighborhood. He heard pack mates talk about their Luna as if she were the neighborhood bike. Everyone had their turn, and from what he heard, in their mated bed. He wanted to be furious, but he was so sad. He felt a piece of him missing.
