Lucille loved their baby. Even while it was growing inside her. But she wanted to give birth, so bad! The baby kicked her stomach until she ached, and it'd only stop when Thaddeus whispered to it. So far, her pregnancy was fairly easy. Dr. Schmidt told her the due date was the middle of March, putting her at forty two weeks. She glanced at the calendar. It was only February fourteenth, Valentine's Day. She loved holidays-especially this one. She was going to do something special for Thaddeus. He was her protector, and lover.
He showed her endlessly how much he cared. While some of her friends spoke of relationship problems, she had none. She and Thaddeus had simple rules. Don't go to bed angry, be honest, and always end arguments or disagreements with a compromise. Granted-he gave her what she wanted most of the time.
When she'd asked what he wanted, he'd responded with "Nothing, dear. I have everything I'd ever need." She hated that answer. It was so unhelpful! She placed both hands on her stomach and closed her eyes. This became her thinking position. Less than five minutes later, her eyes shot open. She'd know what to do!
Thaddeus was starting to feel his age. He cracked his neck, walking up the steps to the mansion. He'd noticed the absence of the vehicles, but shrugged it off. He felt like he was missing something, today. But, he had fair reason to. There was a dispute over land in the North, one he had to fix. Not only did he sit on the Council, he was Head representative. He had just spent two days sitting in a chair, listening to two crochety old men argue about a hundred miles of land. All he ate was pizza, and warm Coke from the vending machine. He shuddered. He started to feel his eyes droop, and he was relieved to be home.
When he unlocked the door, he knew something was up. The lights were dimmed, and no one was home. He called for Lulu, and then Balthazar. He dropped his suitcase and briefcase by the front door, and stood in the entryway. He walked into the living room, and placed his hands on his hips.
Thad's eyes narrowed. Had something happened? Why didn't someone call him? If something happened to his wife, or child, he'd have to kill Balthazar. And that was a damn shame, because he kind of liked the guy.
He was just about to start throwing things when he felt two tiny hands pulling his jacket off. He recognized the small hands, knew who they belonged to. He let her tug his jacket off, and held his breathe when she kissed him on the back of the neck. Lulu led him through the kitchen, and out back. She had set up a small table for them on the porch, with a container of ice and wine. She had Balthazar move his armchair outside, and had lit candles. Thaddeus was confused. Did he miss something? She pushed him into his chair, and poured him a glass of chilled wine.
That was when he got a first glance of her. She was wearing his favorite sweater-the one he had put on her when they first met. Only this time, it was tighter. Still loose, but it caught over their child. And she didn't wear pants. Just little undies that clung to her like a second skin. They were lacy, and she smiled at him as he admired her. She wore knee high socks with little ribbons on the top.
She looked sexy as hell...but he couldn't figure out why. She went into the kitchen, and carried out trays of food. He moaned in contentment. She had made all of his favorites, even the oddest and hardest. There was a basket of spicy chicken wings, a foot long pork sandwich, a few steaks cooked rare, bacon wrapped potato skins, and a tub of french fries and sweet potato fries. He was drooling.
She let him drink a glass of wine, and then brought out his favorite-Gentleman's Jack. Good ol' whiskey. He knew it was important, now. He let her feed him, and then let him devour the food. He had eaten everything, while she ate a salad. She didn't mind-today was about him.
