Our story is about a town, a small town, and the people who live in the town.

From a distance, it presents itself like so many other small towns all over the world Safe. Decent. Innocent. Get closer, though, and you start seeing the shadows underneath. The name of our town is Riverdale.

Our story begins with, I guess, what the Blossom twins did this summer. On the Forth of July, just after dawn, Jason and Cheryl Blossom drove out to Sweet Water River for an early morning boat ride. The next thing we know happened for sure was that Dilton Doiley, who was leading the Riverdale Boy Scout Troop's on a bird watching expedition, came across Cheryl on the river's edge. Riverdale police dragged Sweet Water River for Jason's body, but never found it. So a week later, the Blossom family buried an empty casket, and jason's death was ruled as an accident. As the story Cheryl told made its rounds: that Cheryl dropped a glove and Jason reached down to grab it and accidently tipped the boat and panicked and drowned. As for us, we were still taking about the July Fourth tragedy on the last day of summer vacation when a new mystery rolled into town.

A dark raven-haired girl sat in the red leather booth of Pops chocklit shop, a laptop balanced upon her thighs, her long and delicate fingers typing away hurriedly. A burgundy beanie was positioned on top of her long, curly brown hair and a soft pout was present on her plump, red lips as she drummed her skinny and slender fingers against the wooden table in concentration.

Slouching in the seat opposite her, a figure. His grey beanie drooped over his face completely concealing it for view, his eyes where downcast and shielded, a long and curly strand of brown hair was the only thing visible.

"Sis" He murmured, his voice low and husky "Will you stop typing and look at me" He grumbled, pure irritating in his voice which he was not even trying to hide.

With a long and heavy sigh, the girl tore her concentration away from her laptop to give her brother her full attention.

"Yes Jughead" She questioned him, her voice weak and slightly slurred as she rubbed her eyes sleepily with the sleeve of her black jumper.

"Kylie" Jughead sighed in exasperation upon seeing her sleepy form, watching with a slight smile as her eyes started droop. Her head lolled back gently against the comfy leather seats. "Oh, Kylie. Can't you see, your overworking yourself. When's the last time you had a proper good night's sleep" His brow furred and he gazed at his sister with unmistakable concern.

"Yeah well it's hard to have a good night's sleep when we're bunking on the hard floor of the next available place we find" Kylie grumbled bitterly, glaring at her brother with half asleep dark and piercing eyes.

Jughead sighed and looked at his sister in sorrow. This was not the type of life he wanted for her, it was not the type of life he wanted for either of them.

"I'm sorry, sis, I really am. I'm trying, I'm really trying. But with dad...with dad's drinking problem you know we couldn't exactly stick around" Jughead turned his head away quickly not wanting his sister to see the tears that pooled in his emerald eye's .

Kylie's eyes softened instantaneously and regret swarmed as she saw the tears glistening in her brothers eyes that he so desperately wanted to hide from her.

"Jug..." She started, her voice was soft and gentle "I'm sorry. I don't mean it. I---" Her voice cracked and the emotions she had kept bottled up for years seemed to break free. Her once tough and bad girl exterior was broken, leaving in place a sad and heart broken little girl.

"Shhhh" Jughead cooed softly, getting up and waking over to the shaking girls form and gently wrapping her body in his embrace. Gently, her rocked her back and fourth in his strong, muscular and inviting arms and she nearly sagged in relief against his chest at the gesture. Shifting slightly, she snuggled deeper into his chest, exhaling softly as she seeked comfort in her brothers arms, wrapping her own around him tightly.

Giving his sister one last squeeze, he pulled back, holding her at arms length and gently tilting her chin up so that they were eye to eye.

"It's going to be okay, Kylie. I promise you. When have I ever broken my promise?" He asked softly, gently whipping away a lone tear that made its way down her flawless, porcelain skin.

"Never" She murmured, giving him a light smile before straightening up quickly, going back to the usual Kylie Jones. "Thank you, Jug" She whispered quietly,  almost uncertainly but completely sincere.

"Your welcome, K" He grinned out, using her old childhood nickname which made a smile grace her lips.

He chuckled softly, his chest rumbling with laughter as he ruffled her hair lightly.

"Hey" Kylie protested angrily "Stop messing up my hair and your only older than me by 5 minutes" She huffed, crossing her arms across her chest childishly, her lips pulled up into a pout.

Jughead rolled his eyes at his sisters immature antics but let a smile grace his lips non the less, his eyes twinkling happily.

"I'm glad I've still got you, Kyles" He muttered softly, quietly, almost to quite for her to hear but judging by her smile he knew she heard.

Not saying anything, not that she needed to, she let her head rest against his shoulder, her eyes fluttering closed.

Jughead, chucking quietly to himself, as to not wake up his sister, gently and tenderly scooped her up into his warm arms bridal style. Carefully supporting her head he lifted it against his chest so that she was lying comfortably in his arms before gently making his way out the door. The bell chimed softly behind them and their silhouettes faded out gently into the dark night.

"Sis. Sis, wake up" Jughead gently shook the sleeping girl, who was huddled under all the blankets that he had donated to her when she stated to get cold during the night. He would happily give up his blankets if it meant his sister was warm and comfortable. In fact, he would do anything for her just to keep her safe.

"Urg" Kylie groaned out, burying her face deeper into the mound of blankets, closing her eyes to go back to sleep.

"Oh no you don't"Jughead growled in frustration, ripping the blankets of her body, exposing her to the cold draft circulating.

"Jugheaddd" She whinnied, dragging out the 'd', attempting to snatch the blankets back.

"Oh come on, K. You've got to get up, we've got school.

"I don't want to. Most of the girls in the school are slurs and attention seekers" Kylie groaned again, burying her head in her hands.

Feeling a presence next to her, she slowly raised her head to meet the soft and caring jade eyes of her brother.

"Kyles, I know you don't want to go but we have to" He gently snaked his arm around her waist, drawing her closer to him.

Unconsciously, she leaned in closer to her brother.    " I know, Jug. I know" Sighing she stood up, grimacing softly as pain shot up her back from the funny angle she had been lying on.

"You okay?" Jughead questioned, concerned, his eyes fixed on his sister.

"I'm fine, Jug. Really!" Kylie tried to reassure her brother but to know avail. She knew her brother and he was constantly worrying and fussing about her, ever since they left FP Jughead had to step up to look at from Kylie. To look out for both of them.

"Come on. We've got to get to school. Now" Jughead yelled, ushering Kylie along.

Quickly tying her hair into a messy, high pony tail she grabbed her school bag and hurried off after him.

"Welcome to another day of hell"
