Amelie

I moved the rather annoying strand of hair away from my eyes as I stamped the final paperwork folder. My founder symbol boldly imprinted into the hot wax. I put my fountain pen back into the pot on my desk and sat back.

I closed my eyes and enjoyed the peace of the quiet room for I knew it would not last long.

All of a sudden, as if on que, the door slammed open and as I looked up I saw Michael with a worried look on his face.

He looked so much like Sam. The kindness in his face and the way he stood reminded me of the ginger haired man who stole my heart. I felt a lump rise in my throat as I thought of him.

I quickly swallowed it and stood up from my chair gracefully, I lifted my head up and gave him my best queen like look.

"And to what to I owe this pleasure of your company?" I asked.

"It's Claire. She been bitten and drained and I don't think she will last, honestly I don't." He said, hurried and a little scared.

I felt my heart pound. A sudden feeling of sadness I was not familiar with. Why was I upset over this human being bitten? It happens every day. But Claire wasn't just any human, she had the mind of a wonderful scientist and she had helped with many problems of this town. Her presence was helpful and convenient... but I also had developed a strange hint of trust in this girl... I was sad to see her go, in a way she had been killed by her own kind. She had cured the vampires of the disease we had suffered for years and she had always been against any killing, vampire or human. She seemed to have a certain trust in vampires and I couldn't see why.

"Oh... " I thought carefully about my next words and decided to go with a line from I book I had most recently read. "I'm sorry for your loss."

"Yes but that's not all of it." He persisted.

"Oh?" I said, curious to know more.

"She was bitten by someone from the Bishop bloodline, a female someone."

"I haven't been out of this room. And why would I want to bite the person who keeps Myrnin at bay, she was quite helpful." I kept my temper, after all this was a distressing time for him.

"I don't know. But who else from Bishop bloodline is a woman and has bitten Claire?" Michael pulled at his hair.

I had my ideas of course, but I did not share them. I needed to be absolutley sure before I confirmed it. I don't like to be wrong. My mother was back and that, to use the words of the youth, scared the 'shit' out of me.
