*Hiccup's POV*

The living room table thunks as my head drops onto it. A loud, tired groan flutters the papers on the wooden desk.

A concerned whine sounds from my left, followed by sniffing sounds that blew against my ear. I sigh and turn my head to face Toothless, running a hand down his smooth black scales. "I'm fine bud. Just... a lot of work is all."

He nudges me again, gesturing for the door. I shake my head, "I can't rest now, Toothless. Not until I finish a few more papers. The Agirifa could strike any moment, and we need to be ready."

Toothless huffs, eyes half-lidded. He grabs hold of my arm and gives it harsh yank. I yelp as I'm ripped right out of my seat and onto the floor. "Toothless!"

Toothless sits back and fixes me with his green stare. Watching as I get up and right the chair that fell over with me.

"Was that really necessary?" I glared at him.

Toothless snorts, then gestures with a wing to the door. Giving it a flare to emphasize his point.

I gesture to the papers littered on the table. "Do you not see all the papers here?"

The Nightfury regarded the papers for a moment. His eyes narrow. He opens his jaws, a blue glow blooming at the back of his throat.

"Toothless! No!" I lunged forward. Practically hugging his face in an effort to clamp his jaws shut. Toothless growls under me and tries to shake me off. "Burning the papers accomplishes nothing but burning our house down!"

Toothless gives a frustrated snort under me. He straightens up higher, sitting on his hind legs only. The ground leaves my feet, and I find myself hugging his face tighter in an effort not to fall.

A large green eye focuses on me, and I could imagine him smiling cheekily at me. Watching me flail my legs for purchase as I hung on him.

I roll my eyes in exasperation. "Of course you find this funny."

Toothless laughed under me in response. It vibrated through my arms as I glare at him.

The creak of a door sliding open causes both of us to freeze. Without moving our heads, we look to the source of the noise.

Varor stands at the entrance of the house. Staring at the strange scene in front of him. Remus peeking around his legs curiously. Varor shakes his head to himself, smirking. "Did I interrupt something?"

I release Toothless's head, landing unsteadily on the floor. I try to pull off a nonchalant smile. "Nah, it's just... Toothless being," I fumble for the word. I end up shrugging nervously, "You know how dragons can be."

Varor looks over us one more time, "Right." His face goes more serious, and almost sheepish looking. "Hey Hiccup, can we... talk about something?"

Toothless and I share a perplexed look. "Sure," I answer.

Varor steps inside, letting Remus through the door before closing it. Toothless drops down to all fours and gurgles at Remus, sounding like he was asking a question. Remus rolls his eyes and snorts a response, looking at Varor.

Varor walks over and drops onto the couch. His normally confident attitude is deflated. He leans back deeply into the couch, looking ahead. I take a hesitant seat beside him, looking forward with him.

"So," I clasp my hands together on my legs. "What is it you want to talk about?"

"(Y/N)," Varor doesn't hesitate.
