POV Switch: "Lil' Leuce"
"Lil' Leuce!" Shades laughed as he climbed up the massive temple steps behind her. "I'm gonna catch up!"
"No, you won't." Lucy spoke through gritted teeth as she pulled herself onto the next step. There is no reality where you beat me here. She will witness my victory.
The nights in this dimension lasted for days before the sun came up again, her only light being the stars and the torches lit with blue flames that danced with the wind, they served as her guide. She thought it was ridiculous that Shades still wore his namesake even now. Like how he refused to say her name for whatever reason, she thus refused to use his in retribution.
Her hand slipped from the ledge she was grabbing, causing her to fall back.
Fuck.
She quickly made use of the falling technique she had taught her, maneuvering her body so that she would land on her right side with her palm facing down, her arm at an angle to prevent hurting her elbow, and moved her legs accordingly. She hit the step hard but didn't break anything, and used the momentum to roll to her side and eventually jump up, the adrenaline keeping her moving, her breaths heavy as she successfully climbed the failed step.
Cheers emanated from the small audience that had gathered to watch their trial by temple with blue fire.
"Cool Shades, don't let the new blood snub you!" Curly shouted in his shrill tone
"Yay, Leuce! Show that spec-wearin' wanker how it's done! Kick his arse!" Chips called out.
Shut up.
She took a deep breath and continued her ascent up the temple, she was still a good few steps ahead of Shades. She would stay ahead. So close. She could feel her eyes on her. Ever watching.
She channeled all of her focus into the next few moments, it became a blur as she went over step...
...over step...
...over step...
...over ste-
"Congratulations, Lil' Leuce."
Shades patted her on the back, she managed not to recoil or attack him for the suddenness of his action. She had done it, of course she had. As if there was ever any doubt.
Her body ached all over as she remained standing in her neutral position, her arms at her sides and her head looking forward into the starry midnight sky as the others praised her behind her back. She had no time for worthless praise. This is just the beginning. She knows it too.
"Why so down, Lil' Leuce? You won!" Shades chuckled as he got onto the lift they had placed behind the temple, it was lit by long glow in the dark tubes wrapped around it for safety. Functional, but the Gamers of the End were too silly, even in their decoration. There had to be another option for lighting. Fuck it, it didn't matter now.
She followed Shades onto the lift and positioned herself as far away from him as she physically could. One day she would suffer no such disrespect from people like him, from anyone. She would demand twice-thrice-the respect she was given. Perhaps she'd make people kneel before they even talked to her...
The thought brought a small smirk to the corner of her mouth, luckily it was on the side opposite to Shades so he wouldn't see and poke fun.
Fucking. Shades.
