YOU ARE PATHETIC!
I wake up screaming. Tears flowing down my face.
"What's wrong?!" Ruth says running into my room.
I try to speak, but all I can do is sob.
"Devon, honey, breath. In and out."
I try to get myself controlled. I finally relax thanks to Ruth's peaceful words.
"What's wrong?"
"I-I had a dream about him." I shudder from the thought of the monster. I start to cry again.
"Shhh. It's okay. He can't hurt you. Not here." She whispers to me. "Lets see if we can get you back to sleep."
Ruth tucks me in like a little kid. I smile. It's been a long time since I've been loved like this. She kisses my forehead.
"Don't be afraid to come get me, okay?"
"Okay."
I close my eyes. I just keep repeating Ruth's words in my head, "...He can't hurt you. Not here." I finally dream peacefully.
I try to focus on the positive things in my life. For starters I'm still alive, I have a great sister, who I will see soon, and I have Ruth. She's now like my mother.
~.~.
I wake up to the sound of Ruth on the phone.
"Today, 1:00. Great." I hear her soft voice say.
I walk out of my room. "Who was that?" I ask when I see Ruth isn't on the phone anymore.
"That was the therapist. You NEED to see her today at 1." She says handing me a paper with the time and address.
"Ruth, I'm good. I can handle th-" I start before she interrupts me.
"Don't you dare tell me you can handle this. I saw what a wreck you were last night. You can't let him take over your life. That's what he wants to happen."
"Okay, but if I go you have to promise not to call the cops."
"No I have to."
"No you can't." I beg. "He acts like a good man. No one would ever believe he would beat his own child. I'm like Four, and he's my Marcus. Please."
"Okay. Fine, but if I can get good proof I will turn him in."
"Okay."
A few hours later.
I took a cab to the therapist.
When I walk in I see about 3 people sitting in the office. A kid and his parent, a young teenager, and an adult. To be honest I was a little embarrassed.
I sit down and read a magazine. The one I picked up had an article about Theo. When I saw his picture it made me smile a little.
I read the article. It was a short biography on Theo's life.
"Mrs. Griff." I hear a tall, blond girl say. I get up and walk towards her. She leads me to her office. Her room is simple. A desk, chair, couch, and decor.
I sit down on the couch. She sits down on the chair.
"Hello, Daphne. I'm Dr. Min."
"Hello. Please call me Devon."
"O of course. Now why don't we start off with why you're hear."
"My step-father abused me for a long period of time. My little sister, step-sister, told me he was going to kill me." I stop and grab a tissue. "She told me to run away, so I did." I continue. "Then I found a job at Ruth's library. She never asked what happened, but she figured out what happened. She took me under her wings. Next thing I know I'm here."
1 hour later.
I'll spare you the rest. It was mostly me explaining my past.
"It was a pleasure meeting you, Devon. Please do come back." Dr. Min says while I walk out the door.
"Okay."
I walk outside. I try to get a cab, but never once did I succeed. "TAXI!" I call out like a fool until someone helps. "Having issues?" A strange, but familiar voices says behind me.
I turn around to see him, Theo.
"Y-Yes. I do. I've tried for what seems like hours..." I say babbling like an idiot.
He chuckles. "Let me help. TAXI!" He says in a New York voice.
A taxi pulls up. "Here you go." He says opening my door.
"Wait don't you need a taxi?" I ask.
"Yes, but I will call another one."
"No, you don't need to. We can share."
He smiles. "Okay."
We both scoot into the cab. Then we both tell the cab driver where to go. There was silence at first, but Theo breaks the silence.
"Wait, aren't you that girl that's staying with Ruth? Devon, is it?"
"Yes, Devon. And you are?" I say smiling.
"You don't remember me? How could you forget me. I'm the Theo James."
"Nope doesn't ring a bell." I say trying not to laugh.
"Well then." He says while acting like he's flipping his hair out of his face.
We both start cracking up.
"Are you doing anything today?" Theo asks me.
"Nope. Why?"
"Well, I do remember Ruth telling me I should show you around, so why not now."
"Umm. I guess."
Theo then tells the cab driver to stop, so we can get out.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I FINALLY UPDATED! YAY! Sorry for the lack of updates. I'm still trying to figure out my schedule. I still have homework to do, and it like 10:30 where I live, so this will probably be the only update today... Sorry.
SPECIAL THANKS TO @1nf1nty
QOTD: Do you have an accent?
AOTD: Yes! I do! I have a New Yorkers accent mixed with a country accent. It's the weirdest thing.
