The girl was staring at him, again, and Edward has had enough.

It was unfair that he had to deal with this in his first day working at the bookstore. He was hoping to have an uneventful day in an uneventful job, but maybe his luck has run out.

The girl had earphones plugged in her ears with a dog sitting just beside her. There was a sign hanging at the door saying that foods, drinks, and pets were not allowed. He wanted to confront her, but he hated talking to strangers. And she had a dog, which he hated too.

Na diagnose siya ng social phobia when he was much younger and still living in Germany, though he didn't really need the label to know it himself. He's doing much better now that he's older. Ayaw man siyang payagan ng kanyang kapatid na si Laura na mamuhay ng mag-isa ay nakumbinse niya ito nang sinabi niyang may nahanap na siyang trabaho. Working as a bookstore clerk was the perfect job he didn't know he was looking for. Kailangan niya lamang makipag usap sa tao kapag nag babayad na ito. And when he's free, all he had to do was arrange books and wipe the dusts they have gathered in their shelves. Best of all, he's surrounded with books which he loved. He would rather read than experience all the stories and adventures which he's too scared to do.

Laura was starting her own family, and though he loves them dearly, he knew they deserved their own space.

Dahil matatapos na ang kanyang shift ay naisip niya na lamang na hintayin si Yong para ito na ang magsabi sa babae. She wasn't even reading, or pretending to read anything, just plainly staring at him with unwavering gaze. Edward hated eye contact, and if only he could raise his head a bit and stare back at her so she'd feel how intrusive it is. Besides, you can't forever expect other people to stand up for you, he told himself as he gathered the strenght to stop the girl from staring. He stood up from the counter, and thanks God, bumukas ang pinto at iniluwa nito si Yong.

"Maymay!" His coworker greeted the customer with a wide smile. The girl turned to greet him back, and Edward pretended he had something to do with one of the shelves.

"Paalis na din ako Yong," he heard the girl say.

A few moments later he heard the door and the chimes, and Edward sighed in relief.
