Kathrina eyed her parents with confused frustration, dragging her gaze between her father and mother. Her father who sat perched on his white throne in the center of the large throne room sighed heavily and placed his fingertips to his forehead trying to easy his growing headache. His eldest daughter was not to happy about the new developments he was springing on her last minute.

"Your mother and I are sending the two of you to a boarding school" he said bracing himself for his daughter's wrath. And sure enough it came.

"Why?! Why do we have to leave? Why can't we stay here? In our home! There is no reason to leave! We can get all the education we need here I don't see why we need to go to some other school" Kathrina yelled throwing her arms down to her sides causing a small burst of energy to be released into the ground shaking the floor a bit and lifting her long purple hair off her shoulders. Kate had spent many years learning to control the very powerful magic that she was gifted but sometimes her emotions got the better of her and that control would slip.

"Because I am your father, and you will do as I say!" The king's powerful voice boomed across the room with authority. Any other person would be terrified at hearing his tone this way, but Kate was too angry to care, and she argued with her father often and was used to it, and today was no exception, she would stand her ground.

"That's not a good enough reason!" Kathrina's rage grew as she wasn't receiving the answers she wanted, causing power to dangerously surge inside her. Kate liked answers and her father wasn't giving them to her. That was one of her pet peeves, ‘Because’ didn't count as an explanation.

"Kathrina!" her mother's shrill yell cut through Kathrina's anger, causing her to pause her heated rant and turn her attention to the tall, slender woman who was now standing from her throne, her mouth in a straight line and her cool blue eyes glaring icy daggers at her daughter.

"it is for you and your sisters safety" Kathrina's mother said with a look in her eyes that said not to press the matter any further. Kathrina calmed and her hair fell back down to rest on her shoulders, however the anger in her chest was still bubbling she knew she wouldnt be able to win an argument against her mother. Shes the very person Kathrina earnd her stubbornness from. She lifted her hands up to her head to adjust the golden crown that had been knocked askew during the argument, and smoothing down her hair.

"Fine" she said bitterly eyeing both her parents, knowing there was no getting out of this.

"We didn't expect you to like it. But you'll have iris. You won't be alone" her father's voice said calmly hoping not to anger his tense daughter once again, he always tried his best to keep a calm demeanor, but Kathrina enjoyed to press those limits. Her mouth turned downwards in a disapproving frown. And with a quick and muffled "whatever" she spun on her heel and left the throne room, her long black dress flowing behind her as she exited. It was times like this that she wished the throne room had an actual door so she could slam it instead of just having to stomp through the archway.

Kathrina still upset about the argument she just had with her parents made her way to the place she always went when she was upset , the library. Since she was able to read, the vast library, with floor to ceiling bookcases had always been her favorite room in the large castle she called her home. Whenever something was troubling her she would find herself in the library. She found comfort in the pages of her favorite books, and the crackling fire that burned in the fireplace in the center of the back wall. And today was no different. She placed herself in her usual spot in front of the fire, soaking in the warmth. Kathrina stared into the flames and brought her knees to her chest as she pondered what it would be like to live somewhere outside of the castle whose walls had protected her for the better part of sixteen years. She understood why her parents wanted her to leave. They hopped getting her away from the castle would hide her and keep her safe from her uncle. That he wouldn't be able to reach her, but going to a new school and living in a foreign place held something to be desired, and she harbored many fears and uncertainties about the change that was to befall her and her sister.
