Quietly, I let the phone ring until the call went to voice mail. The silence that followed was almost deafening. Lucien still wasnt moving. "Lucien..." he didn't respond. "Mind coming here for a second? I want to hug you but I cant with my leg like this" Luciens head twitched towards me a little "why?"

"Huh?"

"Arent you scared of me?"

"Why would I be?...Lucien, arent we friends?" Lucien let out a long, shakey sigh. Without another word, he came over in his fox form. He knelt by my side, laying his head on me. Without another word, I placed my hand on his head, petting his fur with slow, soothing movements. And that was the only answer either of us needed. It was long before Luciens breathing evened out. Oh no... did he fall asleep in this position? He looks comfy though. Soft... everything about him seemed soft now. I gently pressed my lips against his forehead. He was soft and warm just like how he looked. I dont know why but my eyes were suddenly wet with tears. "I'm so sorry Lucien..." my whisper was so quiet I could barely hear it myself. "I-I don't know how I'm going to do it-but... I wont let them hurt you ever again...I promise." Lucien didnt answer ofcourse. But for a moment- I could have sworn I saw his ear twitch and his lips- they seemed to relax and curve upwards, just a little bit...just enough for me to imagine that he was smiling.

"I'm Lucien Stewart. I just transferred schools here today. Nice to meet you." He gave us a little nod. There was an awkward silence as my classmates stared at him. As soon as he sat down at an empty seat, the whispering started.
"Omigosh, have you seen his cheeks? They're so cute, I want to pinch them!"

"Awwwe he looks like a doll, how adorable!"

"Eh... I dont like the way he looked at us, kind of creepy if you ask me."

"Are you kidding me? Its 8am, everyone looks like a zombie at 8am."

"Yeah the kid is just sleepy, give him a break."

I just sat in my chair, staring intensely at my phone under my desk. I'd been stuck on the same screen for the past few minutes. It's going to be fine. It's going to be fine. It's going to be fine.
Taking a deep breath, I raised my head and made eye contact with Zachary who had been staring in my direction for some reason.
Eh?! My heart begins to race in fear. Dont scream, dont scream, dont scream. After a little bit of having a staring contest with zach, he gives me a gentle smile which shocked me, but I gave him a small and uneasy smile back at him before he turned to face the teacher as she started talking. I couldn't help but let out a small sigh of relief. H-he smiled at me like nothing was wrong... that probably means he doesnt know who I am, right? Still, even the sight of his back was enough to send my heart beating wildly against my ribcage. Oh, who am I kidding. This was the worst plan...! I'm going to die from a heartattack if Zachary doesnt kill us all first, that is.

Three hours earlier.

"I'm not leaving." I perched on the edge of my bed, pensively running the scar on my leg. My magic hadn't been enough to heal it completely for some strange reason. Lucien was sitting on the matress in the middle of the floor hugging a pillow to his chest. Twitching, he looked up at me with his large blue eyes.
"So you plan on going to school...with a witch hunter everyday?" Lucien blushes a little bit. "Well it's not like I can just up and leave my whole life behind. My family is here, Kenna is here. This is my home, Lucien." Luciens eyebrows furrow,
"so your plan is to just ignore our threat and hope they dont kill us and our lives to go back to normal?"
