Grayson's POV

"Alright, Mr. Dolan, we just need you to sign this and she will be all yours." The doctor says to me.

The clipboard he hands to me is ice cold. Maybe it was just my nerves, but why are hospitals so damn cold?

As i sign my name by the 'father' line on Bailey's birth certificate, i can't help but feel saddened by the quaint cursive of the mother's name - Katrina Bettleman.

Not that i missed her, i just feel bad that she had to... die. Giving birth to our child.

"It was either that or by your hands" the voice taunts.

He hasn't made an appearance for a few days, so i guess it was due for him to torment my mind. I also sign a release form, then hand the clipboard back to the doctor who stood with a smile on his face.

"Congratulations, Grayson. You will be a great father." The doctor puts a hand on my shoulder, consoling me, probably knowing how hard it is to be a new father.

He then walks away and i see a nurse walk to me, my baby girl in-hand. "Here you go, Bailey is all ready to go."

She hands me my daughter and i smile down at her large green eyes staring back at me, "hi, baby."

A small noise emits from her tiny mouth as she stares back at me.

I have no doubt she will have me wrapped around her finger in no time at all.

I thank the nurse and carry my baby back out to the car where Ethan was, a carrier in his hand for my precious daughter. "Let me see my niece!" He shouts excitedly, walking to us with a gleam in his eyes.

"Be careful" i tell him as i take the carrier and pass Bailey off to him.

"I will, don't worry."

It only took two minutes for me to become extremely protective over her. I could swear right now that she is the one thing i love the most in this world.

Y/n, a close second.

Setting up the carrier in the backseat wasn't too hard. I had pre-set up the seat holder before we got here. All i had to do was put Bailey in and head home.

Ethan was right behind me, smiling like an idiot, "ready?"

I smile very wide, i can feel it hurting. "Of course."

Your POV

Being at work where Grayson no longer was, was an odd feeling. You could no longer escape to the seventh floor for a conversation with him. He was miles away, at home with his child.

Boy, was that weird to think of. Bailey would now be a part of yours and Grayson's life. Not just something to think about when conflict arose.

"Y/n," Bettleman says in a cheery voice, walking to you with confidence in his step. You would think that for a man who just lost his niece, he'd be a little more upset. "I have gathered a few files that I simply do not have the time to work on. Would you mind having sit-downs with these patients?" He asks, handing you four manila folders with names on them. The first, being Lucas Hemmings. (I'm sorry, I had to I love the kid.)

Then it really hit you, this would be the first real patient of your own. What do I do first? What do I say?

"Of course, Dr. Bettleman. I'll get right on it." With that, he leaves you to your own thoughts. You know, the ones that won't cease to worry the fuck out of you.

You take a seat at your assistant desk and start turning pages in the files, looking over the patients' diagnostics, information, anything that would help you get a grip of what they were like.

The one that drew you in the most was, of course, Luke's. He was nearly a carbon copy of your modern day serial killer.

'Lucas Hemmings, age 24, held three women captive in his home. There were cages in his basement to keep the women from escaping.'

Oh dear...

Bettleman, what the fuck did you get me into?

Grayson's POV

"You're so precious," i speak softly to Bailey as she sleeps in my arms.

Once i fed her and changed her diaper, she fell asleep, so i brought her to my room so i could nap with her in my bed.

The soft breathing she made had my heart melting to a puddle. It's hard to believe that i helped make something so beautiful. Something so fragile- considering i was nothing but the complete opposite.

I killed two people and have a mental disorder. Bailey's barely two weeks old and she's perfectly perfect.

Two complete opposites, with the same DNA. It was mind-blowing to say the least.

The vibrating of my phone interrupted my thoughts. However, i was happy to see my girlfriend's name across the screen. So i answered, "hello baby" in a hushed voice.

"Hey, why are you whispering?" She laughs a bit, sounding a bit concerned.

"Bailey and i are napping." I say as i glance at my daughter, sleeping soundly wrapped in the comfort of my arm.

"Oh, gosh i'm sorry. Did i wake you?" Y/n asks, sounding more concerned now than before.

"No, no you're fine. How's work?" My main thought was, how's Bettleman? And Beth? And is Jack keeping to himself? But i settled for just 'work'.

I hear her take a deep breath, "it's alright. Bettleman gave me some files to handle on my own and i-"

"That's great. Isn't that what you wanted?"

"Well, yeah, but this one guy... Grayson, he's worse than i imagined possible." My eyebrows furrow at the word 'guy', just because she'd be around another guy that i'd have to... deal with if he got the wrong idea.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

Sounds, like turning pages, come through the phone. "He has captured, mutilated, and murdered seventeen women in the past four years, Gray."

My eyes widen at the fact that Bettleman gave her such a dangerous file to handle. "Are you alright talking to him? You'll have to be one-on-one with him for your sessions, babe."

She sighs and speaks, "i'm not sure. I may have to have Jack or some guard on stand-by, inside and out."

My skin crawls at the sound of that rat's name. "No, anyone but Jack. He's small as shit. What's he gonna do?" I crack a smile, even though she can't see me.

Nonetheless, she laughs. "Alright, well i should get going. I'll be by later to come officially meet Bailey."

"I'd love that, and i know she'll love you just as much as i do."

"I love you too, Grayson." She assures me before hanging up.

I lock my phone and put it on the nightstand, smiling to myself as i look at my daughter once again, whispering "we'll be a happy family. I promise."
