"Hahaha hahaha." God this was pretty bad.
"Not funny." Hugo's face was scrunched up in a mixture of pain and frustration while he held a bag of frozen peas to his crotch area. Amery stood on the edge guilt dancing on her face. I mean she did hurt the guy she supposedly like.
"I'm so sorry Babe; I didn't mean to hurt you." She said holding her mouth. She had charged towards me in full force with the intent of inflicting damage on me but Hugo decided to play hero and got kneed in his babymakers instead.
"Oh god." He murmured looking to the ceiling. I felt bad, it was my fault, but she jumped to the wrong conclusions. It did look pretty saucy; me coming out in Hugo's t-shirt while he was half naked but she wasn't his girlfriend so I don't see why she's acting like an enraged girlfriend catching her man with another.
"Get better soon Hugo I'm gone." I picked up my already soaking top and made my way to the door.
"Wait I'll drive you." he tried standing up, still holding the ice pack tightly but he looked like was in formidable pain. "On second thoughts I don't think I can't." I nodded, closing the door as I took the grand stairs slowly one at a time.
"Cleo." I turned around facing the beautiful all curls and pearls lady. I still didn't know who she was and desperately tried to search my brain if I had seen her before.
"Yes." She approached me cautiously, she was truly remarkable. Her brunette hair was straightened to the side of a face which made her doll like features come out- big eyes, small nose, wide lips, it was all there. She was dressed in a fuchsia suit with pointy stilettos and a feathered brooch pinned to the left tail of the suit. All her facial features stood out in an impeccable way, she almost reminds me of... Hugo. I gasped.
"You're Hugo's mother." I bit my lips in embarrassment remembering earlier incident.
"Yes I am. You must be Billie's granddaughter. I just need to ask you a quick question- are you in a relationship with my son?" I chose my next words careful, I didn't detect a tone of warning laced in her voice but you never know.
"We are just friends." She nodded looking lost.
"Do you talk?" I shrugged.
"I guess we do."
"And he is fine?" what's with the 21 questions I thought Hugo is right upstairs, I'm sure he'll provide a more accurate answers she needs.
"He seems fine." She muttered an 'ok' and delicately walked back in the direction she came. I shook my head trying to snap myself out of it
"That was weird." I thought.
The street was desolate, like a scene in a haunted movie. It almost reminded of the scene in 'To Kill A Mockingbird' where Scout and Jem were walking through the forest after the school play. I took quicker step but I guessed I had nothing to worry about. This town was pretty safe.
"Hey you!" Or not. I heard heavier footsteps and two recognisable faces joined me.
"You're that girl that hangs with Hugo." The two guys were part if Amery's clique they came into the diner all the time. One had an accent which I recognised as Australian whilst the other took out a lighter and lit himself a cigarette. They were both blond with short, scruffy hair. Both had the same stature and height like American football players or even boxers.
"Yes and who are you?"
"I'm Tyler, this is Matt." I nodded what else was I supposed to do? They were making me nervous by the look they gave each once every so often. "We wanted to talk to you because we feel you are the only that can help us." I stopped abruptly wondering where this conversation was going and judging by Tyler giving matt the urging look I knew it would a very uncomfortable topic.
