Meeting the Friars: part 2

Maya POV

We started eating when Mr. Friar asks me: "What do you want to do when you grow up Maya?"

"I don't know yet, probably something with arts"

"Oh, that's......interesting" Ms. Friar said.

Yay! He already hated the fact I want to do something with arts.

"She's really good dad."

"Thank you Lucas." I say.

"Our boy here is going to be a doctor, right Lucas?"

Wait, but I tought Lucas wanted to be a veterinarian, something is wrong.

"Right"

"Hum this chicken is delicious don't you think love?" Mrs. Friar awkwardly says. I can see she is trying to change the subject.

"Yeah, Cecilia did a great job." Mr. Friar answers.

"So how are the things in Texas going dad?"

"Everything is perfect we only had problems with corn last month but now it's all solved."

"Oh, that's good." Lucas answers.

"Do you have any siblings Maya?" Mrs. Friar asked me

"No I'm an only child."

"Oh"

"I'd really like to have siblings, tho."

"Lucas always asked for a little brother but we decided not to have another child so we gave him a puppie"

I faked a laugh.

"Dobby" Lucas says

"Dobby?"

"Yeah, from Harry Potter."

"Nerd." I smile at him.

"Hey, I was reading at the time."

"Sure."

Mrs. Friar asked where I live and if I liked Texas, then we ate strawberries, from the Friars farm, and chocolate cake for dessert. We watched a part of the news and now Lucas is driving me home.

"So..."

"What?"

"Aren't you going to be a veterinarian?"

"Yeah."

"But..."

"Yeah, my dad doesn't know about this yet." He says annoyed.  He probably hates talking about this

"And..when are you telling him"

"Hum...I dont know, maybe senior year, when I get into college?"

"Why don't you tell him now?"

"Well, he knows I wanna be a doctor so I think it is 75%."

"Well, I dont think your dad is the kind of person that thinks a veterinarian is a doctor but...okay."

"So you are saying a veterinarian isn't an actual doctor?"

"No Lucas. I'm saying I'm confused."

"What do you mean Maya?"

"I mean confused Lucas. We are dating for over a month now and we have been friends for more then a year and I know almost nothing about your parents or your life back in Texas."

"I'm sorry Maya. It's just all so complicated."

"You know...Talking may help sometimes"

"Look I'm not like you and Riley that simply go to a bay window and start solving all the problems."

"What do you mean?"

"It's hard for me, it was all so fast."

"Why dont you try talking Lucas. I'm here, I want to listen to you."

"My dad is a strict men as you can see, he wants me to be a doctor because this was his dream. But I really want to be a veterinarian, I live animals. Yeah Maya he probably thinks this isn't like an actual doctor and we will fight, again."

"Again?"

"Back in Texas, in the middle of school year there were two new boys at my school. One was very thin and weak and the other one was very large and strong. Me and my friends decided to call the strong one, Finn, to prank the thin one, Flamel, I think.
But it turned out they were brothers and when we were going to prank Finn both boys pranked us. The other ones in my group ran away but I stayed, fought Flamel. When I lost he put me like I used to do with the 'nerds' and I learned my lesson, he made me promise to never do this to no one ever again and I did.
When principal found us two in the dirty bathroom with slimy fake blood and flour he expelled us and I had to do a grade again.
When I got home dad didn't let me enter and made me go walking till Papy Joe house, he didn't let me go home for a month when I finally could go home he told me I was moving to NY."

"Then you found us"

"Yes. Now I live in here and it's all confused, my dad usually stays here for 10 days then go to Texas for a month and my mom is staying all time with me. That's me, that's my story. I was a bully back in Texas and I ain't proud of my past so I don't talk about it much."

"Oh"

"Thank you Maya."

"Why?"

"For making me talk to you."

"You are welcome huckleberry."

"Love you"

"Love you"

We kissed, I entered home and as always he waited till I got to my room.
