after dinner had finished, lauren was still upset about confessing her feelings and getting nothing in return.

"mom, i just wanna go home." lauren whispered, her mom already knowing of the previous events.

"i think you should go upstairs and talk to him, sweetie." her mom smiled.

lauren nodded, excusing herself and heading up. to her surprise, the lights in jack's room are dimmed and roses scatter the floor.

roses spell out 'i love you' on the bed, candles are lit around his room and jack's standing in the corner with a tiffany's bag and white roses.

"laur, when i said i didn't hear you, of course i did. i've been trying to find the right time to tell you i love you for weeks and it's been unsuccessful because i didn't want to say it to soon. you are by far the most important thing in my life and the best thing that's ever happened to me. you make my bad days good, my dark days bright and you lift me up like nobody else. knowing that the person i love more than anyone or anything loves me, sends me through the roof and i'm just too much of a coward to say anything." jack spoke, each step getting closer to lauren.

he popped the ring box open, getting down on one knee.

is he for real doing this? lauren thought. surely too soon for an engagement ring.

"this isn't an engagement ring, but a promise ring. i promise to always love you, always care for you, be faithful to you and always, always put the good above the bad. i can't promise you dark clouds will never hover over our lives or that the future will bring us rainbows, always be predictable and steady. i can't promise you life, our relationship or tomorrow will always be perfect. i can promise you my everlasting devotion, my loyalty, respect and kindness for a lifetime. i can promise you that instead of walking away, i will stay and work through our problems. i promise to always do my best to make you feel loved, beautiful and cared for. i promise to stick by you through any crisis, pray with you, cheer you on and always be your number one supporter. i promise to always, always love and cherish you."

lauren cried as he slipped the small diamond ring onto her finger.

"i love you, jack finnegan gilinsky."
