"So hold on!" It was Liam who spoke up. "So you are telling us in your dream you auditioned for the X-Factor?"
"Yep," was all I answered.
"And that's where you fell in love with this guy?" Niall asked this time. All the guys knew that I was gay. I had never hidden that from them, so also now it wasn't questioned.
"You'll see! Let me continue..." I tried.
"What's his name though?" Louis actually dared to open his mouth.
"Shut it, Tommo," Liam told him.
"But...," Louis started again.
"Shhh," Liam put his pointer finger over his lips, signalling for Louis to shut up. He pouted and crossed his arms over his chest. I ignored him and continued my story.
The first time I heard his voice my heart stuttered. I had turned a corner on my way to the room I shared with 3 other guys from the boys' category and somebody bumped into me so hard I fell backwards onto the floor with someone on top of me, knocking the breath out of me.
"I'm so sorry!" was what I heard and a shiver ran down my spine. First I had a face full of curls and then I saw his eyes up close and personal and I was falling into them. He was still laying on top of me and probably expected me to say something.
"I'm sorry," he said again. I shook my head to clear it.
"'S ok," I answered and gave him a small smile. He returned it with one of his. Since he still hadn't moved away from me, I cleared my throat and tried to wiggle out from under him. He realized what I was doing and an adorable blush stained his cheeks. He scrambled to his feet and reached a hand down to help me up.
"Sorry again!" He apologized for the third time and I chuckled.
"It's ok," I told him. "Really!"
"I'm Harry," he said and stretched his hand out in front of him. I thought that was such an old fashion gesture for a boy his age, but I took it and shook it once.
"I'm Zayn. Nice to meet you."
"Same. Where are you from?"
"Bradford. You?"
"Cheshire."
"I saw you in Manchester for auditions," I suddenly blurted out. I felt my face heat up and looked at the ground. I had not meant to say this to him.
"You did?" he asked and I could hear the smile in his voice, but I could not bring myself to look at him.
"Gotta go," I stammered out and almost ran in the direction I had originally come from, forgetting that I had been on my way to my room.
I beat myself up after that exchange. I felt so embarrassed and tried avoiding him as much as possible. I managed to do that until the day of the dancing auditions. I knew there would be no eliminations that day, but I was nervous to the point of nausea. I was a terrible dancer. I had done the practice and knew the routine, but I was terrible and scared of all the people that would look on and cameras capturing and forever memorizing our every move. Everybody had gotten together on and around the stage. The boys had to go first and I wasn't ready.
All three boys started laughing. I looked around at them and took a few sips of my coffee, waiting for them to calm down. I didn't say anything, but I felt a little pissed off. I knew it had just been a dream, but that they still would laugh at my inability to dance was not ok. Well, I suppose the fact that I also couldn't dance for shit in real life influence their mirth. But I wasn't happy.
