Once, there was a king who was known for his goodness. He was also loved by the Gods because he prayed to them daily and remembered them in everything he did. One day, a monk came to the palace gates, begging for food. "Please give me something to eat. I have not ate anything for six days. If I do not eat, I will die!" By the time the king received the message, the wicked demon Mara heard what the poor monk had said. He wanted the monk to die so, he created a terrible fire on the path of the king and the monk. The king brought food for the monk, he saw a fire separating them. He commanded, "Mara stop your wickedness. Fire or no fire, this monk will eat today!" He calmly walked over the fire. Lo! It turned into thousands of blue lotuses! The terrified monk ate the food and thanked the king and the Gods. Mara cursed the Gods and disappeared in a flash of lighting. The king asked the monk to stay and recover his strength. Mara never appeared to trouble the king as he knew the Gods would always take care of him.
