"Starpaw wake up!" Sapphirepaw yelled, pushing up Starpaw, "our mentors are calling us so we can train together!"

It was the day after, and Starpaw wasn't used to waking up, and he certainly didn't like it. But it was nice, sleeping in between Nutpaw and Sapphirepaw.

Following his sister out the den, Starpaw saw Bramblejaw at the fresh kill pile.

"Eat up both of you, I don't want you slacking off at battle training, ok!" He instructed.

Starpaw grabbed a stale mouse while Sapphirepaw grabbed herself a pigeon. Not much was on the fresh kill pile, but then again the dawn patrol had just left and not every cat was awake.

Gobbling his prey up, he padded to where Bramblejaw waited impatiently, closely followed by Sapphirepaw. Quailwing was behind Bramblejaw waiting also.

"Ready?" he asked, clearly wanting to go to the sandy pit where they trained.

After a few minutes of walking they finally came to the training pit. Starpaw looked at his mentor expectantly. "What are we learning today?"

"Well, you both have no experience in battle training yet so we'll start with the basics," Quailwing said.

"We're going to start with a move called the, Leap and Hold," Bramblejaw said, "I'll demonstrate on Quailwing.

The two apprentices stared in awe as Bramblejaw crouched down.  Suddenly he flashed forward leaping onto Quailwing, who wasn't paying attention, and dug his claws in Quailwing back.

"Stop, your not supposed to use unsheathed claws!" Starpaw yelled.

"Its ok, I barely left a mark." Looking at Sapphirepaw's mentor, he saw not a single scratch. "Now you try on Sapphirepaw, then switch when you get it."

Starpaw crouched down focusing on his sister, watching her eyes he waited for her to blink. Soon enough she did and he sprung forward, jumping on her back, and stuck his claws on the surface of her skin, so he could hold on without scratching her. Sapphirepaw staggered under his weight and soon collapsed under him.

"Ok I give you win, now get your fluffy butt off me," she yowled. Getting of he bounded to Bramblejaw with pride.

"I've never seen a apprentice master the move first try!" he said in disbelief. " You're going to be a great warrior, now your turn Sapphirepaw."

Sapphirepaw took awhile to get the move down but after awhile she did it and was on top of Starpaw.

"Great job Sapphirepaw," Quailwing mowed. It had been a half days work of training and they were ready to go to camp. "Let's head back," Quailwing suggested.

Back in camp Starpaw saw Nutpaw, eating a shrew beside her mentor, Ravenpelt. Getting permission from Bramblejaw, Starpaw scampered off to eat beside her.

"Hi," he greeted to Nutpaw. "Hello want to share this shrew," she invited him to sit beside her. "Ok," he sat down taking a mouth full of the shrew.

"I caught it myself," she boasted. "Nice, I was in the sandy hollow battle training all morning, and apparently I mastered a move the first try!" he boasted back. As Nutpaw swallowed the rest of the fresh kill, she stood up and meowed to Starpaw, "I'm tuckered out, but see you later ok," she bounded to the apprentices den.

Turning he saw his mother talking to the medicine cat, Redpelt, who was staring right at him while listening to Emberflame.

"Were they discussing stuff about him," he thought alarmed, "what if they make me a medicine cat, I don't want to be stuck in a herb store forever!" just taking it as a blank stare, Starpaw turned and bounded into the apprentices den, seeing his sister and Nutpaw fast asleep, he very carfully laid down between them and rested his head, "is there something wrong with me?" he thought picturing Redpelt blank stare. Closing his eyes he fell into a dreamers sleep.
