2011
Miles was relaxing in his flat when it happened. He had no idea it would happen, neither did he know if Alex was even in the country at that moment. He knew the Monkeys were finishing up on a new album already. The rain was gently hitting the window panes, the room dimly lit with a lamp. Miles was laying on his comfy bed, listening to that damned Beatles record. He promised himself he'd stop listening to it after Alex, but the man couldn't bring himself to do it.
"Come on, Mi," he told himself, "you need to get over him already. You're twenty-five years old. You've still got your whole life to figure out yet."
A quiet knock echoed through the walls, coming from the front door. That was strange. Miles never had visitors. He slowly got up, leaving his room and approaching the front door. He gripped onto the handle, and pulled it down.
Alex stood before him, leather jacket and mop of hair drenched from the rain. There was a lot of rain dripping from his cheeks, nose, and eyes, but Miles wasn't sure if they were also tears. His eyes were bloodshot and he looked broken.
"Al?"
"I-I'm sorry it's so late but-"
"What happened?" Miles asked firmly.
"I-I...we..." Alex's teeth chattered uncontrollably. Miles sighed, placing his hand on Alex's shoulder and pulling him inside. The other man's knuckles were red. Miles closed the door and led Alex to the bedroom, like it was the first time.
Alex perched on the edge of the bed and exhaled. He looked a little less shaken, now he was in a good place. It felt strange, seeing Alex in his room again after so long.
"Take that jacket off. You'll get hypothermia." Miles carefully unzipped Alex's jacket, wary of catching his cold skin, and placed it aside. Alex was only wearing a grey vest underneath it, as well as his signature golden chain around his neck.
"Are you gonna tell me what happened?" The taller man questioned.
Alex looked up at Miles with his tired eyes. "We broke up."
Miles frowned. They'd broken up? After all this time?
"Why?"
"I-I don't know. It just happened." Alex shrugged. "But...I don't...feel anything."
"Al, you were with her for years. What do you mean?" Miles furrowed his eyebrows together.
I Need You by The Beatles had started playing. Alex weakly smiled. "I lent you this record, didn't I?"
Miles softly grinned. "Yeah, you did."
Alex looked down at Miles' arms. "What I mean is, I feel like there's someone else. Someone else I always loved more. Someone I foolishly gave up on."
Miles' heart stopped. "So...that's why you're here?"
Alex nodded. "You don't have to have me, Mi. I just want to let you know that...the offer is there."
The taller man jumped up and down in his mind. Alex was back for him. And maybe for good this time. Even after everything that had happened, Alex loved him.
Miles screwed up the front of Alex's vest in his fist, yanking him forward and letting their lips meet. Their teeth collided, tongues too, as the song continued.
"Al, I need you."
"Appropriate." The smaller man chuckled. "Hold on." He started unbuttoning Miles' shirt, taking his sweet, sweet time.
"Hurry up."
Alex giggled, ripping Miles' shirt down his arms. Alex tried to lift his shirt about his head, receiving help from Miles. Miles held Alex's waist and flipped him over, so now the smaller man was beneath him. He attacked the boy's neck with kisses, spending a precious amount of time on each spot.
Minutes upon minutes later, Miles found himself sweaty and faint, hovering above Alex's body. He was speechless. The man collapsed next to Alex, greeted by the drenched pillow.
"So..." Alex panted, "how was that for you?"
Miles lifted his head and grinned up at Alex. The other man was smirking, breathing heavily. "Could've been better." Miles teased.
