Tyler didn't run for long, he couldn't. In fact, he was tempted to turn around and sprint back to Johnny and his friends. Tyler shook his head, bending over slightly and putting his hands on his knees. What was wrong with him? He couldn't have any friends besides Malachi, it was too dangerous. Ty's eyes widened. He had to find Mal, that's what he was trying to do before anyways. He turned and blindly headed in a random direction, shaking all other thoughts from his head.
About forty-five minutes later, Tyler felt his phone buzz in his bag. With a groan, he retrieved it from the bottom and answered.
"Hello?" He huffed.
"Tyler! Where are you? No, don't tell me, I don't want to know! But you need to come home now, you forgot to take your medications!" His mother scolded from the other line.
"Fine," he whispered annoyedly and hung up. He wanted to find Malachi. Where was he?
After Tyler got home, he quickly swallowed his pills with a sip of water after his mother pestered him about where he was and what he was doing. He quickly brushed her off and made his way outside again, going to search for Mal again. He stumbled a little, his vision a little hazy. No big deal, this happened everyday. The doctor said it was because of the meds. He slumped down against a tree for a moment and closed his eyes. After a few minutes, he decided he was alright and continued and making his way through the forest.
Ty turned his head. Almost immediately, there was Malachi. He was leaning on his shoulder against a large tree. His expression was stoic, but Tyler knew what he was thinking; No matter how plain Mal's face looked, his eyes always gave him away.
The boys stood, staring at one another for a moment. A swirly mix of purple and orange feelings seemed to twist and tangle in the tight air between them. Finally, Tyler spoke out.
"Where have you been all day? I...I've been looking all over for you." His voice was weak and his muscles loosened as he took a few steps towards Malachi.
"I've been here the whole day," he replied, his voice calm.
Tyler scratched his head confusedly, but decided to drop the subject.
"Anyway, listen," he began. Mal perked up a little.
"I'm sorry about last night, Mal. And I hate that every morning we meet like this and then at night we go back to fighting. Let's just try and...uh, not to fight. Ok?"
Tyler had fumbled with his words, a tightness forming around his throat in fear that Malachi would not forgive him this time. And Mal had not spoken, which meant they probably wouldn't be friends much longer.
Then, he chuckled.
"Of course, that sounds like a good idea. And, Ty, I'm sorry too." Malachi responded softly, tilting his head down to see the smaller boy better.
Tyler grinned and Mal put an arm around him.
"C'mon, let's go to the tree."
