"Argh"
I sigh loudly when I land on to my bed. I roll over on to my stomach, phone in hand. "Hello, Darkness my old friend. I've come to talk with you again-" "Shut up, Rudy Florence Blackwood,"
"Don't say my full name, idiot. I prefer Rue than Rudy," "Well, you are rude so Rudy fits you," I let out a breath I've been holding since I called him.
"Grey, you do realise that I am your pure, sweet and beautiful older sister right?" I ask hopefully. "No. You're my unholy, rude and ugly older brother," "Boy, I will smack you the next time I see your face," "See? Unladylike and rude. Who'd see you as a sister?" I swear to god, this boy.
"I'm hanging up," I say, and a loud beep cuts our communication. I drop my head into my folded arms, and I kick my legs into the soft mattress. "He aggravates me so much!" I yell into the duvet.
My room door opens, and Vanessa comes in. "Oh my god, Rue! Don't kick your legs like that! Your ankle is still hurt!" Vanessa yells in a panic. A sudden thought and realisation washes over my mind.
My foot is perfectly fine since I woke up. And I woke up half an hour ago. The thought never hit me.
-Flashback-
I wake up at ten-thirty. II stretch my arms above my head. I get up and I walk unsteadily towards the bathroom. I strip down, folding my pyjamas and shoving them into my laundry basket. I step into the shower after playing my favourite song. I start singing- or yelling- the lyrics while dancing. "Boy you got me wasting all my time! Finally I'm sober happy that it's over! Go ahead find another one, I'm-ma let you have her doesn't even matter to me no. Oh no. NoNoh," I stomp my way, dancing and twirling in the shower. After a few minutes, I step outside, wrapping the towel around me and going back into my room to get some clothes. After changing into black ripped skinny jeans and a loose white tee, I take my phone and jump into bed to call my older brother, Grey.
-End of Flashback-
"I-It doesn't hurt," I furrow my eyebrows. I get back into a sitting position, my legs hanging off the bedside. Vanessa puts her glasses back on and sits on the floor in front of my legs. She lifts my foot to examine closely and she lets go almost immediately.
"Rue! Why did you use black magic on your foot?" she hisses. "What? I've never attempted to use my powers unless it's an emergency! I didn't even notice that it had healed this morning!"
She gives me a doubtful look. I'm the only one in this town that can use black magic. Even the ghosts are afraid of me, and this town has thousands of them! I made a contract with a goddess thirteen years ago. I was only six when I met my end. It was a home invasion. Someone shot me in my stomach. I can come back to life but with the curse of black magic. I was only six, and I was stupid so I agreed. Thirteen years later, here I am. A nineteen year old with a messed up life and hometown.
"I swear! Wait! I know! You were suspicious of the cat, and I think your suspicions were correct. That cat must've done something. It should be in the guest room across from mine,"
Vanessa gets up, and pulls me up along. "We have to get to that cat. Look at your foot. You have purple, black and red lines running up your ankle," I don't make a move to look. "I'd rather not, Vanessa," I sigh. She nods, pulling on my arm again.
Suddenly, the door downstairs is thrown open violently. "Rudy!" Grey's voice calls out. "You have to come down right now," I nearly burst into tears, but his panicked voice put a restraint on those salty waterfalls.
I rush downstairs, and I'm greeted with my brother. His red hair is messy and pulled up, and it looks like a flame atop his head. His eyes are aqua blue, and at this moment, his eyes are ablaze with rage and panic. I run towards him and I cup his cheeks.
