"WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?" Hailey screams at me as I enter the hospital. I hadn't told her anything about what has been going on, I didn't want to get her involved but I knew sooner or later she was going to find out for herself.
"I'm sorry, something happened and I had to leave the party," I tell her walking into the lounge and shoving my bag into the volunteer cubby. I had school today which consisted of bad lunch and immature boys as always. Jenna was sick so I didn't have anyone to take my misery away even.
"I saw you leave with some guy, who the hell was he?" she asks crossing her arms, she was obviously upset and an upset Hailey was not good. I turn to her and bite my lip.
"It's a long story," I tell her. She sits on the couch and crosses her legs while resting her hands on her knees.
"I've got time," she says simply.
I end up telling her everything, from the first time I met Spencer to having dinner with Xavier. She listened and not once interrupted me. I knew roping her into this was risky, but I didn't want to lose her just because of everything going on.
"Holy shit, you're in a gang!" she squeals, "That's so badass, my best friend is a gang fighting badass!" she says excited, I chuckle at my best friend, only Hailey would find all this exhilarating.
"I guess. I have no idea what to do about everything," I tell her honestly. People were supposedly after me and I knew that it was only to get worse, I could feel the oncoming storm.
"So your mom gave you something to protect and whoever these bad guys are want it?" she asks, I nod my head and run my fingers through my hair.
"Why now? I don't get why this is all just coming undone," she says. I shrug at her, I wish I knew the answer. Her brows furrow and I can tell she has an idea.
"What?" I ask.
"Do you know if you're suppose to get anything on your birthday?" she asks, I think for a moment.
"I know my mother left me a gift but my dad hasn't mentioned it for years, I don't even know if I'll get it," I tell her, "Why?" I ask.
"Maybe whatever she left you for your nineteenth birthday is what they're looking for," she tells me. "Think about it, maybe your mom left you something that would change everything until you were old enough to handle it," she says. I look at my best friend.
"Oh my god, you might be right, but why nineteen and not eighteen?" I tell her. She smiles smugly at the fact that she may have figured out a piece of the puzzle. How did she figure it out before me?
"I don't know honestly, maybe she liked the number better?," she jokes slightly, causing me to hit her on the shoulder playfully.
"Shut up," I tell her, she shrugs at me, "I'm just saying," she says before standing up and leaving the room.
If Hailey was right and my mother did leave me something important, what was it and why do others want it? I think about the question but get no where, I decide to go ask what I can help with and told to stock the medical supplies. I head to the medical closet and find boxes of supplies that need to be put away.
After five minutes of stocking I hear the door open, I see Dr. Grayson enter with a boy a couple years older than me. Hailey had a huge crush on Dr. Grayson, he was young and successful and good looking, I honestly believe he's part of the reason she's volunteering. He smiles at me.
