There was a large cracking sound that woke me up. A twig had snapped not far off from where we were. My heart immediately began beating faster. I carefully un wedged myself from the thicket, growing it out a bit to better hide Mark. It was dawn. I stood, growing thorny vines in my hands. My magic let of the slightest bit of light, which scared me.
"Jack?" You there? I thought I saw green?" I knew that voice. It was Ethan.
"What the hell, Ethan? You scared the crap out of me" I huffed. The vines in my hands disappeared. I could only just make out his figure in the dark.
"Sorry, I just came looking for the two of you. I've been looking for hours" he ran into my arm. He grabbed onto my gauntlet.
"You okay there?" I put my hand down on his shoulder instead of him holding my wrist.
"Yeah, I just can't see much in the dark" I helped him down to the ground.
"So why were you looking for us?" I proceeded to ask.
"A girl, Marzia I believe, came with a guy. They said the boat is going to be here today? So they need to transport you two to it? I dunno about the boat thingy but it sounds a bit sketchy"
"She's here? Right now?" I asked.
"Yeah she's camping out on the beach waiting" Ethan shrugged. I turned and shook Mark awake.
"Marzia is here" I told him as I pulled at his arm.
"She's what?" Mark's head shot up.
"She's here to get us. We should bring these guys with us too! We have to get them away from the fight before it starts" Mark and I were standing now, ready to go. The dim light of dawn was slowly seeping into the forest making it easier to see.
"You, what?" Ethan was standing too. We started jogging down the hill. Well I didn't, but they did. My vines swung me through the trees.
"We're going to be getting all the survivors on the boat and bringing them home to their actual families" Mark instructed.
"What? But won't we be brought right back? The government will know!" I could hear the worry in Ethan's voice.
"They will! But they will let you back! Ethan, it was never the government who put us here, it was Leader. We were is museum exhibits. He was never here to protect us, haven't you noticed he's not even one of us! He has blond hair, he has no powers" Mark shouted. He was angry now. Ethan slowed, but I plucked him off the ground, flinging him through the trees with my vines.
"You mean I could've still been with my parents?" Ethan's voice went really quiet.
"Yes. But we're going to be getting you back. Marzia will bring us back to that boat, and if we can, we're going to arrange it so that some people can bring you back immediately. We don't know how long this fight is going to be" I explained. As we reached the end of the tree line, I flung myself up in the air, preparing to land in the sand. When I did, a huge cloud of sand flew up.
"Hey superhero, over there, you should really start remembering your helmet" Mark raised an eyebrow. He was holding my helmet in his hand.
"Oh crap, sorry" I blushed.
"We have to go soon. The other form will be coming soon," Marzia itched with paranoia. She kept looking over her shoulder.
"Okay, we'll get going, but we have to bring these guys, please" I asked.
"Yeah alright, but I need to at least form with a couple of you so I don't have to carry everything" she grabbed onto Mark, Felix, Betty, and I. We formed together. I grabbed onto Ethan, Jen, Ben, and Nina. Mark grabbed Will. Betty and Marzia pulled us off the ground, as we began flying through the air. I'll admit, watching Ethan flapping in the wind, made me want to laugh.
The boat was directly in front of us. Therefore we weren't far. We would be there within two hours, ready to fight. Marzia landed us on the deck. Neva was standing on deck with a surprised look on her face. Marzia dropped us, letting go of the form. We all fell onto the deck.
"You brought survivors?" Neva rushed to their aid. She helped them up.
"We did, and we need to get them to the mainland. We need as many people from the Levitation Faction here to help. As many people as we can need to get to the mainland if they're not okay with fighting" I explained.
"Of course. I can get someone right now to get these people where they need to be." Neva turned.
"They should be brought to the hospital where they can find out who and where their families live"
"Yes" Neva nodded. They were whisked away before I could stop them and say goodbye. I decided to sit down. The closer I knew we were getting to that fight, the more uncomfortable in my own skin I became. Because for some reason, I felt wrong to be sitting here in my full suit of armour, being immortal, and having all my friends exposed for this fight. There was not one thing right about this. They should be the ones in the armour.
The armour made me feel trapped. I felt trapped in it, and myself. There was so much pressure on myself and Mark. We had a laundry list of things. We had to fight, get married, have a coronation in order for the Nature faction to come to be again, to have a kid. Not to mention leading the faction.
I barely budged when Mark sat beside me. I rested my head on his shoulder.
"You alright?" He asked calmly.
"No, not really. I haven't been since I found out who I really was. Knowing I, of all people have to rule a faction. There's all this pressure. I don't know how to deal" I shrugged.
"I promise I'm going to be here with you the entire time. I will do what I can to help you in every way. You're not alone in this, Jack, even if you think you are. I'm in this mess too"
"It is my fault you're in this mess though. I mean, I was the one who told them I wouldn't do anything without you"
"That's besides the point, Jack. I'm trying to say I'm always going to be here for you." He repeated.
"I know you are. And I couldn't be happier that you are"
"Alright. That's all I needed to know" Mark shifted. I moved my head off of his shoulder when he did so.
"I love you" I whispered.
"I love you too," Mark responded before kissing me tenderly. Almost like it was our goodbye kiss.
"We do however, need to do one more thing," I caressed his cheek.
"What's that?"
