I trotted up to Moondust, with something on my mind. "Moondust, will you be my lead mare?" I asked her softly. She looked surprised by the question, but then answered the question. "Yes, I would love that Colebrook." "Thank you Moondust!" I said excitedly cuddling up together. I looked around at our herd, but only saw two out of the three blacks. "Where is Nyx?" I asked Moondust, but then I saw her, getting herded out by a different stallion.
I galloped up to him, and he was much bigger than me. I reared up and made my strong muscles show. He stared at me at first, than accepted my challenge. I flicked my ears, and Moondust started to gather the herd, slowly, but she did it. The stallion did not notice, but he was striking at me. Moondust started walking out of the valley because she did not want to catch the stallion's attention. I saw her get out of the valley, and she broke out to a run.
The other stallion threw me to the ground, and I could feel my back flare up. I rolled away, and ran after my herd, taking Nyx with me. We left the perfect valley, and I found my herd once again. When I got there, Moondust came running up to me, the relief showing in her eyes. We nuzzled up, and we continued on, sleeping in a different place every night. We stayed in the same area as our lost valley, so we could keep an eye on it.
Moondust and I were sleeping together again, cuddling for warmth in the spring winds. "When I am bigger and stronger, we will reclaim that valley. It is ours, it's just temporarily stolen." I told her. "Is that stallion too strong though? I don't want you to get killed." She said, the concern dripping from her lips like a waterfall. "When I am older, I will use my brains, and not just my hooves." I told her.
A howl stopped our conversion quickly, and I jumped up, to challenge the wolf. "Get our herd into running mode, and run in the direction of Father's herd, if the wolves are after us, he is your best chance. She nodded, and started waking everyone up, to run. I galloped up to the wolves, catching them by surprise. I pounded the first in the head, and he was leader, before I killed him. The rest of his pack came at me, attacking me.
I was about to almost give up when I heard pounding hooves. Blizzard came, and started attacking, freeing me from the wolves on my back. We worked together, and killed three more, before the rest of the pack fled. My father looked me in the eye, and looked proud. "You, and your herd may stay in my valley tonight." He told me before running off.
I had many cuts, but they all went numb when I saw my entire herd safe in the valley. I trotted towards them, and was almost here when Blizzard cut me off. "Don't think about stealing any of my mares." Father said warningly. I just now realized that I was the same size as him and I'm only a yearling. I was going to be bigger than him when I was full grown.
I went out to the corner where my herd was, and collapsed. I could see Moondust coming towards me, but her image was cut off when I got blood in my eyes. "The calm spot." I told her quietly, and she helped me up. I slipped into the water when we got there, and I dunked my head under to clear my eyes. When I came back up I saw the blood in the water. The blood flow started to slow, and Moondust came beside me. I rested on her for a bit, and before we knew it, we fell asleep.
