Chapter 42 Back at Hogwarts

Harry walked to his seat at the teachers table. He had talked about it with Ginny on the train and she agreed that it was better that he would be at the teachers table so if a student needed him he would be available. McGonnagal looked at him and smiled. "How was your trip Harry?" She asked. Harry's look made her worry a bit. "It was great but we had some uninvited guests from the ministry that ruined it a bit. I will explain later." He said. Minerva looked at him. "I would like to invite you and your three friends for a cup of tea tomorrow after diner Harry. Just as friends I think that it is way to long ago." She said with a smile. Harry agreed but he asked if they could do it tonight so that the others could get the homework done they got set the next day. Minerva looked at Harry with wonder. He thought about the schoolwork first instead of the tea, what was going on. After she had agreed Harry took out his wand pointed it at his plate muttered some words and put it back. At the gryffindor table his 3 friends looked at their plate as Harry's face became visible. "After diner meet me. Having tea with lady friend." Harry's face said. Ginny who knew the spell took out her wand to send Harry her reply, but before she could she had to explain some to Ron and Hermione. But before she even could start to explain she heard Ron. "Blimey what was that?" He said. "That was Harry telling us to meet with him after diner to have tea with Minerva." She said as she put her wand to her plate to send a reply. The return feast was as normal as it could be with a lot of chatter in the hall as friends told friends what they had been doing over Christmas. After desert McGonnagal got to her feet and told everybody that classes would start tomorrow and all to have a good night. The great hall emptied fast and when Harry left it with McGonnagal they found Ron, Hermione and Ginny waiting outside the door. "Follow me please." Minerva said strict as ever. Once they were in her office she looked at her students that she also was looking at as friends. "Now away with the formalities and please tell me what my husband has done, for you to look so depressed when I asked about your trip because I know he was planning something but he didn't want to tell me because I would not like it." She asked Harry as she was serving tea. Harry looked at his friends and they all nodded at him as to approve to tell what had happened in Paris and at the ministry. Minerva looked at the 4 and she was blown away by the loyalty they all showed one another.
If one of them would have said no she knew she would not hear what had happened, so she was glad that they trusted her so that she was allowed to know. "It wasn't Elphinstone it was Kingsley." Harry began his story. As he told Minerva what had happened she was not happy. She would talk with her husband about this that he should have had a better control of his aurors. How was Arthur able to lead the whole department if the aurors did as they pleased. She could notice that Harry his friends or even Molly and Arthur had not thought about that but she would not talk about it with Arthur herself. She didn't agree with Harry when he told her that in his opinion the punishment Kingsley had gotten was way to big. "Harry I want to ask you something." She started already going back on her earlier decision not to talk about Arthur. "You need to think about what I ask you now, but who would be more involved and influenced by this?" She asked Harry. Harry had really no idea but than there was Hermione to save the day once more. She gasped for air as she knew who Minerva was referring to. "Arthur!" She gasped. Minerva nodded. Ginny and Ron were just as Harry not getting it. "What about dad love?" Ron asked her. "Ron, your father is the head of the magical law enforcement department. Kingsley and the aurors went in against his wishes. How do you think that will look when this comes out. Bad leadership." Hermione said. "The minister had no choice but to degrade Kingsley for what he had done, if he hadn't that would give the auror department a free reign of what they wanted to do. Now they say mess with us and deal with the consequences." She finished. Than something clicked inside Ginny's mind. "Dad knew." She said. Everybody looked at her. "Dad knew what had happened in the ministry before we told him," she explained. "I don't think it was a random encounter with that auror from Paris. I think the minister planned it so he could get dad in and out before we were home. He knew the press would be down so we would be delayed even more, and they would have time to get dad back after they dealt with Kingsley. I didn't think about it but I can recall that dad had sooth all over his robe when we came home like he just flooed in. He didn't want to tell us so we would not worry." She finished. They talked about it for some time further but soon the conversation went to the trip and how they had loved Paris and the resort. Ron was still wondered by the way the boats went through the canal without magic but still they were not attached to a track. After a few hours they left the office of Minerva and went to their rooms. The one they didn't want to see was Filch the caretaker but of cours they went around a corner and there he was. "Well well well what we have here." He said with a smirk. "Students out of bed." Harry just had it with this man. "Yes Mr. Filch 4 students out of bed but if you would look further than you are doing now you would have seen that 2 of them are the head boy and head girl and 1 is a teacher. So if you want to go and report us please do. I think the headmistress will fire you for it as you have proven in the past more than enough that you are not capable to care for the students as you should as a caretaker in a school." After that he walked on with his friends following him without a word. When they were in the safety of there own room Ginny grabbed Harry around his waist from the back and pulled him towards her. She felt the stress fall of him as she held him. "Harry it's ok." She said. He turned towards her and she could see the hurt and anger in his eyes. "What is it Harry?" She asked. "Please talk to me you know you can tell me. I might not like it but I will deal with it." She said to him. Harry broke down in her arms. "I can't do this anymore." He said through his tears. "Why don't they just leave me all alone. Every time I go somewhere there is somebody looking at me. Wanting something from me. I didn't asked for any of this. I didn't asked for my parents to be killed, I didn't asked for a mad man trying to kill me for the past seven years. I didn't ask for my friends to die." Harry kept going and going. Ginny was just holding him and comforting him. "Why Gin why can't I be just like any other wizard just plain Harry Potter nothing special?" He asked her in the end. Ginny looked at Harry and felt sorry for him for all the burdens he had to carry. "Harry if you had been plain Harry Potter would you be the same person as you are now?" She asked him. Harry looked at her not believing what she asked. "I would gladly be another person if that meant I would have lived with my parents and even had the chance at a brother or sister." He said almost hurt that she would ask him this. "Even if it means that you would not have all the friends and family that love you now? Even if it meant we would not be in love?" She asked him again. Harry thought about it. He would never want to loose Ginny and he knew that she loved him for who he was not for the fame so that it would mean if he was not who he was that she would not love him. "No," he finally said. "I could never loose you. I love you so much." He said to Ginny as he held her tightly as she was about to slip out of his reach."Harry I know it was mean to ask but like I told you once I will tell you again and again. The war of life is never fair." She told him. "I love you Harry don't ever forget that. I could never leave you so you don't have to worry about loosing me." Ginny kissed Harry on the lips and she felt his need for love in the way he returned it. Harry woke the next day with new determination. He knew what he wanted. He would talk to Minerva after classes and see what she would say. The day went fast for them as classes had been in full swing right after the holidays. After his final lesson of the day Harry walked towards the headmistress office for the second time in two days. He knocked on the door and after an "Enter" he opened the door and walked in. "May I have a word with you Minerva?" Harry asked her. He looked nervous and Minerva could see that. "Harry everything alright?" She asked concerned. She looked at Harry and she could see that he was nervous and she also knew that he was never nervous around her so she knew it was serious. "I am fine but I wanted to ask you something." Harry said. Minerva nodded to Harry to continue so Harry took a big breath and said. "IwaswonderingifIcouldbecomeateacherherenextyear?" He had said it so fast that Minerva hadn't heard a word he had said. "Okay Harry first take a seat. Second you have to repeat that because I could not understand a word you said because you were talking so fast. Please take a breath and relax a bit." She said to the nervous young man. Harry took the seat she had pointed to and took a deep breath. He tried to relax a bit and looked at Minerva and the painting behind her of Dumbledore who was smiling at him as he had heard the most part of it. Harry once again took a deep breath and tried to get control of his nerves. "What I was wondering is if I could become a full teacher next year?" He finally said. Minerva could not believe what she was hearing. She knew of Harry's desire to become an auror she had even said to Umbridge that she would do anything in her power to get him there even if she had to teach him herself. Now he was asking her if she would think about it if he could become a full time teacher here at Hogwarts. "Harry but why? I thought you wanted to become an auror?" She asked him. Harry who had known that she would ask him that was ready. "I don't want to work with people who think they are better than others so that the law doesn't apply to them or that orders from the minister himself could be ignored." He said. She could hear the venom in his voice and now she knew what she wanted to know. Harry had been in doubt of being a teacher or still becoming an auror. The events during the holidays had changed his mind for him and he now wanted to stay and teach. "I don't know Harry." Minerva said. "I think you have to ask Sirius what he thinks about it because he is teaching the seventh years now and as you know after you left I think we all were planning on him to stay." She looked at Harry and she was really sorry to say this to him, but the best way now was to be straight with him. "I talked to Sirius about it over the holidays and he will gladly leave the school and search another job as he also thinks of returning to the auror office but that is more to clean house after what happened." Harry said. Minerva could not believe it. Harry had already made sure that if he could have the job that Sirius was okay with it. This young man was smart she had to give him that. "I will think about it Harry." She finally said. "I will let you know soon but I have to think about it if you don't mind." Harry could understand that so he nodded. "Thank you Minerva that is all I can ask for." Harry said as he stood and greeted her and left. Once Harry was out of the office Minerva looked at the painting of Dumbledore. "Albus what do you think I should do?" She asked her old friend. "What do you think Minerva?" Was Albus' simple reply. "I would have kicked him out of the office. Thinking of becoming a teacher just because his other option doesn't appeals to Mr. Potter anymore." Sneep said in his painting. "Serverus I can't belief you of all people are saying this." Said Dumbledore. "Minerva we as old headmasters and headmistresses can't tell you who to hire or who not. As this case I think you know what I would say and keep in mind that you are dealing with a man dealing with a lot of hurt." He said to McGonnagal before sitting in the chair in his painting and pretending to be a sleep. McGonnagal looked at the other paintings and all the occupants followed Dumbledore's example and pretended to be a sleep or just left the frame. McGonnagal for the first time didn't know what to do. Dumbledore's words were still ringing in her ears. She knew what he would do and that Harry was hurt. She knew Harry was hurt. But in what way. She needed to find out and fast before she could make a decision. Her only option would be Miss Weasley.
