17. Found a Bit
"They say don't look back, but sometimes it's important to see how far you've come. "
"Sria!Dinner?" Kunal called out from the dining area as I entered the house.
"No I had!"
I was back from the hospital. I made my way upstairs to my old room to freshen up and hit the bed.
I am spent!
Uncle was in hospital. I pushed Kunal back to work once mom's condition improved. He and uncle took alternative shifts at night with mom and I took the day duty. Keira would visit in the evenings. We all fell into a routine in last few weeks.
Mom could be discharged in two days. I spent the day with her, accompanying her for various tests and physiotherapy sessions.
We didn't have any deep conversations yet. I was pushing it away. I didn't want to burden her emotions.Right now she just had to focus on getting better and we would talk then. A silent agreement both of us came upon. Once everything gets back to normal I would return.
Return to my normal life.
It would take time, a week or two more. And I won't rush out this time. I would bid my farewells properly.
My phone rang as I leaned back on my bed.
Noticing Keira fell asleep, I moved out of the room to the balcony to attend the call.
"Hey Adi"
"Hey busy girl. Doing good? "
I hummed.
"Tired? "
"Haan. I was just going to doss off when you called. "
"Oops. Then you can catch up on your beauty sleep. You need it. Will call you later."
"Adi! All the best for tomorrow! " She was going to assist her senior in the trial tomorrow.
"Thanks! " She sounded nervous.
"You will rock it. Even Adhvik said you are enough prepared to even lead the case on your own. " I tried put her in ease. Even though he just mentioned how hard working she was.
"Did he really? " She sounded perplexed.
"Hmm.. Not exact same words. But he was confident in you and I know you are going to be amazing. So breathe! "
"Sria, he might be your new best friend but I am his junior. I know how he gets with work. So no worries. Good night Sria. Love you and proud of you. " She was cheerful.
"Love you....and make me proud like always! "
I stood on the balcony letting the wind caress my face. I heard it whisper soothing words and felt the gentle touch. I was so absorbed in the moment that the sudden notification tone of my phone startled me.
"Slept? " Mr.Protective texted.
I called him up in return.
"Hey.. Adhvik! "
"What are you doing so late?" He was not being authoritive but inquisitive.
"It is not even eleven yet. And I was just encouraging your junior. I don't want you to lose a case. "
"So thoughtful of you. "
"That I am. "
We fell into a comfortable silence. I was not in a mood for chat but his presence at the other side of the phone mattered.
