Chapter 13
Running out the door, I made my way towards Lucas and I’s typical meeting spot. The old rundown coffee shop. You know, the one Lucas had taken me to a few days ago? Ya, that one.
Walking inside, I immediately spotted Lucas sitting at a small little table in the back . Smiling, I made my way towards him, sitting in the chair across from him. Immediately, a smile spread across his face.
“I didn’t actually think you’d come! Wait no, let me rephrase that. I didn’t think your dad would actually let you out of the house!” he explained, getting a chuckle from me.
“You're right, he didn’t, but my mom did.” I explained, getting yet again another smile from him.
“Well I’m glad. I have something I really need to ask you. But first, follow me!” He explained, as he began running out of the cafe and down the busy London streets. I just smiled before getting up and running after him.
As we continued running, I noticed a drastic change in the scenery. The once tall, towering, buildings were replaced with tree’s. The many people walking up and down the busy streets, had faded into nothing. In other words, we were in the middle of nowhere.
Slowing down, I began to lose sight of Lucas. Looking around, I noticed my senses had started becoming a lot sharper. My vision was much clearer, my hearing was a lot sharper, and now that I think about it, my running was a bit faster to. Now, I’m not saying I ran at like the speed of light, but I was much faster than I was before. What is wrong with me? Am I going crazy? Am I just imagining this whole thing? Where did Lucas go? Why would he leave me in the middle of the woods by myself? I just don’t understand.
“Lucas!” I called, as I began searching for him. As I took a step forward, I heard the sound of footsteps and a branch snap behind me. Spinning around, I expected to see Lucas. But what I saw wasn’t Lucas, it was nothing but thin air! Ok Evelyn, just calm down. I’m sure everything is going to be just fine, you're just being paranoid is all. At least that’s what I tried to convince myself.
As I continued to walk, the footsteps continued. That’s when I knew this was real. I was not being paranoid, and someone or something was in these woods with me. With that thought, I immediately took off running. I kept running and running until finally, I felt an arm tug at my wrist and spin me around. Preparing for the worst, I began squirming and fighting back. That is, until I realized who it was.
“Lucas!? What the hell! You scared me half to death! I thought you were a murder or something! Don’t ever do that again!” I shrieked, smacking him slightly. He just let out an angel like laugh before rolling his eyes.
“Ok, ok, I’m sorry! I was only trying to scare you! But come on! I have something to show you!” He explained, grabbing my arm and began dragging me down a small narrow path. But the second he came in content with my skin, shivers went down his spine.
“Are you cold or something?” He questioned, causing me to furry me eyebrows in confusion. Cold? Why is he asking me if I’m cold? Why on earth would I be cold? It’s like ninety something degrees out here!
“Um no, why do you ask?” I questioned, causing him to raise an eyebrow at me.
“Well, your skin is kind of cold. As if you had been standing in a freezer or something,” he explained, causing me to once again, furry my eyebrows in confusion. Why would my skin be cold? I don’t feel cold. So why would Lucas think my skin was cold? I don’t know, maybe I’m just overthinking this. Maybe he’s just really hot so I feel cold to him. See, now we’re thinking logically! Ok, maybe not logically, but it’s not as ridiculous as before. Who am I kidding, I’m related to my mother! Nothing I say is ever going to be logical! So I can just forget that idea.
As we continued walking, I noticed something in the distance. small little lights exploding into the sky. The closer and closer we got, I realized they were fireworks. And as we came to the edge of the woods, I notice we were on top of a small hill. This hill, happened to have the most perfect view of London. You could see everything from here! Things from Big Ben, the London Eye, and just the beautiful lights of London in general. The fireworks just made the scene ten times better. It was absolutely breathtaking!
“Lucas, this is absolutely beautiful! How on earth did you find this place?” I gushed, still awestruck by the whole thing.
“Um, I don’t remember really. I was just stumbling through the woods one day and stumbled upon it I suppose,” he shrugged, smiling softly at me.
“Well it’s beautiful, thank you,” I smiled, and before I knew it, we were both leaning in as our lips connected. It felt amazing! There were bombs, fireworks, butterflies, and every other cliche thing you could possibly think of. It was absolutely perfect! Most importantly, it felt so right! Like it was meant to be. But you want to know the best part of the whole night? It wasn’t the fireworks, it wasn’t the view, Heck, it wasn’t even the kiss! It was the question that had come after the kiss. The question that literally had me smiling from ear to ear. The question that made me realize that maybe, just maybe, I was doing something right.
“Evelyn, will you be my girlfriend?”
