Chapter Three
Silence and confusion filled the air. The Enterprise crew had been thrown into a chaos that was absent just a few hours ago. Kirk sighed deeply, wondering how everything could turn so bad so quickly. No one quite knew how to respond to the situation at hand. The four lieutenants who had mysteriously swapped bodies looked desperately to one another, hoping to find the solution in each other’s faces, but alas, there were no answers there, either.
But, just in the case the crew wasn’t already entirely shocked, the universe decided to drop two strange men dressed in twenty-first century clothing through a flashing purple portal that suddenly ripped a hole right in the middle of the ceiling. A flurry of shouts and screams tore their way through the Bridge as everyone was thrown backward by the force of its appearance. And then, just as quickly as it had come, it was gone. The ceiling didn’t even have a small crack to indicate that something had ripped it to shreds.
The men glanced around, obviously extremely confused. Murmurs came from some of the Enterprise crew as they watched the two strangers cautiously.
“Well, this is a weird one, Sammy,” the shorter of the two men said, glancing around at the ship.
“We always have weird stuff happening to us, Dean. I bet you it was Gabriel again. It looks like we’re in some sort of sci-fi movie,” the taller man sighed with a blank expression on his face.
The shorter man, Dean, decided to take a look around. The first thing that caught his eye was a fancy looking chair. Grinning, he sauntered over to it.
“Dean,” Sam groaned, watching as his older brother proceeded to sit in the chair with a smug grin.
“Look, Sammy, I’m in the fancy chair,” he said proudly.
It was then that Kirk decided to rush at the two with a phaser in his hands.
“Who are you?” he demanded.
He glanced at Dean then made a face. “Get out of my chair!” he snapped.
“Woah there, Captain tight pants! Put that thing down,” Dean snickered, raising his hands slightly as he begrudgingly got out of the chair he had been sitting in.
“Sorry,” Sam said, looking at Kirk. “I’m Sam Winchester, and this is my brother, Dean.”
Kirk didn’t answer. He merely glared at them.
“Umm...I hate to ask, but where exactly are we?” Sam asked.
“On board the U.S.S Enterprise, a Starfleet vessel that is currently on a five year mission,” Kirk said, gazing warily at the two brothers. Sam sighed and shook his head.
“This doesn’t make sense,” he muttered.
“Yeah. It seems a lot of things haven’t been making sense lately. Welcome to my world,” Kirk snapped, his irritation growing by the second.
“Stuff like what?” Dean asked, eyeing a few of the girls on the deck. He smirked when he saw the duo of Astrid and Catherine and gave them both a wink. Catherine glared at him and clenched her fists, while Bones looked apologetically at him. Dean frowned, confused.
“Stuff like my crew members getting swapped into each other’s bodies, causing mass confusion and many problems on my ship.”
“Been there, done that. It’s no fun unless you get switched into a girl,” Dean chuckled.
Sam elbowed him and sent him a glare.
“Not helping at all, Dean. I think we might know what is doing that,” Sam said to Kirk, hoping to ease his apprehension a little.
“What exactly would be causing this sort of problem?” Kirk said, slightly smiling at what Dean had said.
“A witch.”
“A witch?” Kirk said.
“Yes, a witch. We’re hunters. We deal with this kind of crap all the time,” Dean boasted with a smug grin on his face.
“We were hunting one back in Kentucky. One minute we were there, the next we were here. So we’re just as confused as you guys are,” Sam sighed.
“Ya really think we’re gunna believe you two?” Chekov said, crossing his arms over his chest as he glared at Dean.
“Astrid, I could go without your sass right now,” Kirk growled, rubbing his temples.
“Wait… you’re telling me...that’s a girl? What do you actually look like?” Dean snickered excitedly.
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Chekov shot back.
“Astrid, stop. You aren’t helping,” Bones intervened tiredly, looking at Chekov.
“Dean, enough,” Sam snapped.
“So, we are assuming-” Dean paused as a strange look appeared on his face. Sam glanced at his brother, his brows knitting together.
“-That he or she is on the ship here with us,” Scotty said, finishing Dean’s sentence without pause.
“Dean?” Sam said slowly, turning to look at his brother.
Dean raised an eyebrow. “I’m not Dean,” Dean said. Chekov groaned in frustration. Dean spoke with a Scottish accent.
“Not you too,” Chekov sighed irritably.
“Dean, stop. This isn’t funny,” Sam said firmly.
“Uh, Sammy? I’m right here,” Scotty said, his voice no longer tinged with his familiar accent.
“It happened again, didn’t it?” Kirk inquired with a defeated look on his face. Sam nodded with the same expression on his face.
“Well, this just went from bad to worse,” he muttered.
“Sorry ta interrupt,” Chekov piped up, “but I don’ see the point in mopin’ aboot it. I, fer one, would like me body back. What’re we gonna do ta fix this?”
Kirk, though unwilling to give up his position of authority, turned to Sam and sighed, “Got any ideas? It seems you and your brother are the experts.”
“We are,” Sam replied, though not arrogantly. “Trust me, we want to help you figure this out. I suggest we split into a few teams…search the ship for signs of witchcraft.”
“How will we know it when we see it?” Bones asked.
“We’ll explain that all in a moment. For now, we split. Who goes with who?”
Astrid and Chekov looked at each other, as did Bones and Catherine.
Kirk sighed.
“Obviously you guys will be paired with your significant other,” he quipped. “The question is who else will join you.”
“That’s a perfect start,” Sam said. “Uhh…the two gingers…who wants to go with them?”
“I will,” Kirk said.
“Me too,” Uhura jumped in.
“I suppose that means I am going as well,” Spock deduced.
“Okay,” Sam said. “The other two…the dark haired ones. Who will go with them?”
“I will,” Dean said.
“And I guess me too, then,” Scotty sighed.
“Who’s left,” Sam asked.
“Just me,” Sulu answered.
“Then I’ll pair up with you,” Sam said. “Everyone got their teams?”
Everyone nodded.
“Okay,” he said, giving a curt nod. “Let’s go find us a witch.”
