Mingi woke up on the couch. Tucked in the back of his mind, he remembered that he slept on the couch so that he wouldn't disturb Soo-young. His relationship was so different now. He loved her from the late night walks to the dates, but when she began distancing herself from him, he became agitated. Which led to many arguments that ended on a bad note.
He gets up finally. He makes his way to his bedroom. The door was open, bed made, and Soo-young is gone. Checking the time, he realized it was around 3 in the afternoon. Damn. He didn't mean to sleep that late.
After refreshing himself in the bathroom, he curses out loud. Before heading back to Hongjoong, he realized he was kidding the wrap that he used on his hands for training. Pushing back his disgust, he mustered up the courage to travel to Soo-young's house.
A car that he had never seen before was present in the driveway, where he usually parked. Exiting the car, not worried about the keys still being in the ignition, he pulled his pistol out from the waistband of his pants.
Holding it by his side, he went to knock on the door. However, the door was already open, almost as if it couldn't be closed in time. He instantly raised his gun, his eyes looking down the barrel. He moved with the agility of a panther throughout the house, checking every room.
Not finding her, he reached into his pocket to find his phone and call Hongjoong. He didn't have to, as his phone lit up with a call from Yeosang.
"Mingi."
"I ran her ring as you asked me. Which, by the way, I didn't have to do. Meaning that you owe me, big-time."
Mingi rolled his eyes. "You ask everyone you work for that?"
"Only those that force me to hack into the Na-song database," Mingi took in a deep breath at his words, "yeah, exactly. So, if we're all killed, you know why."
It was silent as he waited for Yeosang to continue.
"It's a 25-carat diamond ring, pretty valuable in American currency. It would seem odd that she carries this thing around, considering her prints don't show any known spouses. With that in mind, I did some digging. Sure enough, it belongs to Na-song's daughter-in-law. Well, late daughter-in-law."
"So Dai's mother?"
"Dead mother. Now, you said those gang members were trying to take it off her body for a profit? Sure, it fetches a pretty penny but that can't be all. My guess is that something is inside the main diamond, or even Na-song just wants it back."
Mingi frowned. It seemed odd, with Soo-young's absence and the heavy presence of recent gang activity. "You think Na-song sent those gang members after the ring?"
"That would be my guess, but I can't guarantee that. Min is on her way to take it to a jeweler—"
"No!" Mingi yelled into the phone. Yeosang went silent. "You tell Min to stay where she is. Keep the ring in your possession. Soo-young's not at home."
