Ariana’s POV

The sunlight was warm on my skin as I picked out fresh produce at the market across the street. The fresh fruits and vegetables were bright in the wooden crates as I examined apples for bruises.

After paying for the fruit, I meandered down the cobblestone streets towards the apartment while whistling quietly to myself.

I almost didn’t notice the person following me.

“Who’s there?” I called out into the empty alleyway.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you,” said a familiar voice.

“Louis?” I called as he emerged from the shadows. “You scared me to death!”

“Again, sorry about that,” he grinned. “Can I walk you home?”

“That would be great!” I said.

Halfway through the walk and having a lovely conversation with Louis, he took the shopping bags out of my hands.

“I can’t explain how much I’ve missed you,” said Louis suddenly, halting his movements and staring into my eyes.

My eyes softened and I ruffled his hair. “I’ve missed you too; so much.”

His eyes lit up. “Would you like to come over for dinner? Jack won’t be home until later and I’ll be lonely.”

My thoughts strayed to Harry and I pulled out my phone before texting him.

To Hazza:

I’m eating dinner at Louis’ house. He’s all alone tonight :(

From Hazza:

Okay Love <3 Have fun!

I stuck my phone back in my pocket.

“Sure! Lead the way!” I said cheerfully.

As we arrived back at his flat and temporarily packed away the groceries, Louis pulled out ingredients to make pasta with vegetables.

“Mind if I go explore your flat?” I asked cautiously.

“Not at all! Knock yourself out,” he chuckled.

Louis’ decorating style hasn’t changed since I last lived with him. Slightly messy with a hint of organization stilled describes him personally. I was looking at an old photo from when we first met when I smelled the blood. I ran back into the kitchen.

“Louis?” I yelled frantically. “Are you okay? I smell blood!”

“I’m fine,” he said weakly. “Cut myself while trying to chop vegetables.”

When I entered the kitchen, Louis was holding his finger under the tap and cursing under his breath.

“Here, let me see it,” I insisted.

Louis’ POV

“You can leave if it makes you uncomfortable,” I said.

She looked at me amused. “Louis, I’ve had 30 years of dealing with blood. I think I can handle it.”

Her delicate hands gripped mine and brought the injured finger close to her eyes.

“What’s the verdict?” I asked.

She smirked. “I think you’ll make it, but I should probably wrap it up.”

“The gauze is in the hall closet,” I said.

In a flash she had left and returned with the roll of gauze. Her nose scrunched up adorably as she wrapped the gauze tightly on my finger before closing it off with some tape.

“Done!” she laughed. “The surgery was successful.”

I let myself laugh along before catching myself.

She’s a vampire.

She’s married to my enemy.
