The small fragile boy walked slowly down the corridor with his head down and his hood up. He did his best to ignore the laughs and mean comments that were thrown at him. 'why me' that's all that ran through the brunettes head before he managed to make it to class. "Zach put your hood down now!" The teachers voice echoed around the class making everyone look at the quiet boy sat at the back of the room in the corner.

Slowly the boy known as 'Zachary' pulled down his hood.

Some people gasped, some laughed, some just stared.

4 years.

4 years since anyone has seen this silent ,almost mute, boy's face. Zach looked at the worksheet infront of him and started doing the work.

He was the smartest, quietest, most confusing student and yet no one knew what he went home to, his drunken dad waiting to beat him, no mum, no help. He had to look after his baby sister and make sure that she didn't cry and disturb his 'dad'. During the school hours Mrs.Frantchiz (Jonah's mum)would watch the baby for Zach.

A few desks away sat a curly haired boy. He was intrigued by Zach. Yes he had a crush on Zach but he denied it. Yes Jack noticed how quiet the boy was. Yes he noticed that Zach seemed skinnier each and every day. Yes he had noticed that the boy had a black eye and a busted lip with a huge cut on his cheek and a scar that went right through his eyebrow. This made Jack feel bad. He didn't know why. But he needed to talk to Zach.

*RING RING*

"Class Dismissed!" the teacher shouted causing everyone to leave the the room leaving behind just Jack and Zach . The curly haired boy known as Jack finally built up the courage to talk to Zach. He slowly made his way over to Zach "Hi" the small beaten boy just nodded and looked down whilst shoving all of his books and pencils in his bag.

"Zach, would you like to eat with me at lunch?" Jack asked in a quiet and soft voice. " N-no" Zach croaked out

"please just give me a chance?" The older boy tried pleading with Zach, eventually Zachary looked up into the boy who looked like he had a bowl of noodles on his head's eyes and felt bad so he finally said "yes".

That night Jack lay next to the small beaten boy and whispered a barely audible "it's never too late" Zach simply smiled and fell asleep cuddled into Jack's chest, under the night sky that was lit up by thousands of stars.
