you made a promise.
i remember the moment you took me by the hand,
and guided me to your bedroom where you had a surprise waiting for me.
3 years.
it was our 3 year anniversary.
you sat me down in your gaming chair,
and had me face the opposite way.
you told me to cover my eyes with my hands,
in which you turned me around to face you.
an Xbox box in a new condition was sitting on your bed,
i remember telling you it was something i had wanted.
my jaw dropped with the weight of excitement,
until i picked it up and realized it felt like a weightless piece of paper.. it was an empty box.

i turned to face you with confusion,
but i still had a ball of excitement bubbling inside me.
you slowly allowed a bright, happy filled smile form across your face,
one that stretched from ear to ear as tight as it could.
you told me that it was a present that was long overdue,
something that should've been gifted a while ago.
you pulled out a little white box,
that fit perfectly into your hand
like a missing piece to a puzzle.
my whole world stopped.
my hands lightly covered the opening of my mouth as i stared at you in shock.
you gently cracked it open,
which revealed the most stunning
promise ring any girl could ask for.
i felt my stomach started to turn,
twisting in a million different ways.
i remember whispering,
"a promise ring"
i remember you nodding with
the same bright smile plastered on your face.
you softly lifted the ring out of the box,
as it shined brighter
than the sun in the morning
and the stars at night.
it was sterling silver,
with a tiny ring of diamonds that created a halo around the main diamonds.
you took my left hand off my mouth,
and slowly slid the band on my ring finger.

your eyes locked with mine,
as i had tears on the edge of falling.
you told me you promised to love me endlessly no matter how tough and rough our relationship got.
you promised you'd always care for me to the best of your ability.
you promised you'd always give me every ounce of attention and affection you had to give me.
you promised we'd never split apart, and that you'd always love me with your whole heart and nothing less.
