When I woke up it was still pretty dark outside, the sun was just starting to rise. I wanted to do my morning routine, it includes stretching, going for a small run, getting water to stay hydrated, and gathering a few herbs in case I ran into anyone who was hurt. After I had stretched, ran, and gotten water, I was gathering herbs, however, I felt like someone was watching me. I heard leaves rustle and I smelled Hinto in the bushes. He jumped out at me, but I dodged him just in time. "Nice reflexes, you need quick reflexes during battle" he stated as he caught his balance.
"My mother taught me to keep my guard up, she said that I had to be ready for anything" I looked at the ground remembering her gruesome death. "She sounds wise. if she taught you that, why didn't she teach you to fight or hunt?" he looked at me curiously. "She was more concerned with our owner, Chloe," I said. "Chloe?" he asked. "The human we lived with," i said. "Well, we should get started with hunting. first lesson, tracking using your sense of smell and your eyes" he stated. "I know how to track, I was better than my mom," I said a bit defensively, " I just don't know how to properly kill something". "that's great, we can go right to how you take down your prey," he said with a smile.
time skip to after they finish hunting training because I'm lazy and don't feel like writing it all out.
Hinto and I were working on my fighting training now because I was able to track a deer, kill it, and bring it back to the pack. Hinto said that when we returned to the pack, I would be challenged to a fight. If I won, I would be accepted as a member of the pack, but I would be exiled from the territory and the pack if I lost. "Does the challenging happen for all the members of the pack?" I couldn't be the only one to go through it, right? "The challenge happens when new wolves enter the pack and when the males born into the pack reach eighteen moons of age" he states as we continue walking to the pack. "Why is it only the males?" it didn't seem fair the females didn't have to do it. "The pack doesn't want to lose it's females because they produce puppies and increase the numbers, however, more males are born than females. This makes the pack uneven, thus some males must be exiled from the pack through the challenge" he explained.
We finally reached the pack and my father stood in front of everyone. "Raven, today you will go through the challenge to see if you are fit to join us. Your opponent will be....."
Cliffhanger! I'll be posting the next chapter hopefully on Saturday because I have school this week, my sister in law is going to have a baby soon, and I'm finding out the gender of my sister's baby on Thursday.
