I'm having a lot of trouble getting through this scene. I'm sorry it's taking so long for me to finish. Here's what I have so far, and expect an update this weekend!

Thanks for reading! :)

Part 3

I spend the next few hours gathering strands of plastic while my partner ties them into ropes and braids them together for strength. It's grueling work in my condition, but the loss of all hope has left me with a sort of whimsical freedom I didn't know I was lacking. The things that once mattered so much to me; my career, my family, my status, these things have slipped away into meaninglessness. I've been stripped bare of anything that separates me from the creatures that hunt me.

At least that puts us on even ground.

Dusk is already falling when we finish our rope. It looks a bit shabby to me, but my partner assures me it's strong enough. I trust his judgment. He's a rock climber after all. We begin our careful descent into the valley of madness.

There's no sign of the creatures as we hit the base of the hill. We walk slowly towards the metal monstrosity in the center as we carefully watch the perimeter for interruptions. It's ominous how empty the place seems after last night. I find myself wondering how the creatures disappear so completely during the daylight.

I nod my head to Chris as I pass him. He doesn't nod back. Ironically, that's just like him. Strangely, only Chris and Will still remain on the statue. Only those two severed heads watching as I pass. Their limbs are scattered about, intestines wrap around the statue, but the remnants of Jim and Dave seem to be gone completely. I try not to think about what happened to them.

We post up on the left side of the statue. The ground on this side seems the softest. The thing must weigh a few tons, so we're going to need gravity and luck on our side. Still, it seems like we'll have plenty of time to get it right. There's still no one in sight.

We toss the makeshift rope around the head of the statue, dislodging an unidentifiable glob of meat that splatters at our feet. We pay it no mind as we grab hold of either end of the line. I look around once more to make sure we're not being watched. The coast is clear.

We pull.

The statue shifts.

The world explodes in noise.

High pitched screaming comes from all directions at once. A choir of voices crying out in unison from the very mountainside around us.

I flinch in shock and lose my grip, falling onto the bloody earth. My partner, accordingly, goes flying without my counterweight. I slap my hands over my ears as I search for the source. The valley looks the same, mountains of oozing refuse climbing into the sky in all directions until everything starts to shift.

The hillside suddenly pulses, in and out, up and down. The trash shifts and slides as several doors open from within the heaps that surround them. Swarms of humanoids move in from all directions -- bodies naked and rotten, shrieking as they run us down.

They've been hiding in the hills this whole time. I watch as the doors built into the mountainside bounce up and down with the exit of each new horrifying mutant. Of course, it's so obvious. Honestly, I should have suspected it by this point. The way they always appear and disappear at random. How they always know where we are. How many times have they watched us, silently, from the very hills we climbed?

But there's no time for contemplation. The creatures are almost upon us. I'd like to run, but they come from every side, swarming out of the hillside like cockroaches.
