short update, but I will work on this on the weekend hopefully.
I set myself to the task of searching the lair. On the one hand, it wouldn't make much sense to leave me locked in here if there are other exits. On the other hand, I don't have any other options.
I prepare myself for another disgusting trash crawl and slowly get to my feet. Everything hurts, my entire body is one huge bruise at this point. On the bright side, if everything hurts then it's easier to ignore each individual pain.
To my great surprise, there's no muck crawl at all. Behind the doorway lies a large hallway. Rather than the random formation of trash, it's clearly human in origin. It leads off to the left and right for as far as I can see in the darkness. I take a step in and am surprised again at the solid floor that meets my feet.
The ground is paved with roofing tiles and pieces of splintered wood, bricks and ceramic tiles are mixed in reminding me faintly of a cobblestone path. It's bumpy and uneven, but somehow sturdy. I wobble a bit as my legs have forgotten how to walk on solid ground.
The hallway is at least ten feet high. That seems unnecessarily high until I remember the size of the resident. He probably has to crouch. The walls and roof are composed of trash as well. I'm a bit shocked to find a roof this size composed of entire car frames and massive scrap from airplanes and large industrial machinery. Sign posts and telephone poles spear through the path acting as support beams.
Also, I finally find the source of the light. Along the ceiling runs a single string of Christmas lights. A few of them flicker softly in each direction, though most seem to have died. I don't suppose bulb replacement is high on the priority list, though I'm shocked they have electricity at all.
I don't have the time to consider the implications. I have a difficult decision to make. Left or right?
I make a turn and start to walk, head spinning at the bizarre firmness of the world around me. I seem to have lost my land legs over the last week. I wasn't aware that could happen without being at sea. Now if only I had some Dramamine.
