~9 Years Ago~Five people are running for their lives. Tap. Tap. Thud. Thud. The sound of their shoes splashing in water as they sprint towards the exit was the only sound that could be heard. One passed through the gate. Then the second one. One by one they quickly reach their destination. Till tragedy strikes...

"RUN CAESAR!"
She was slowing us down. But I couldn't leave her. Not when she was like family. Her kid loves my kid. I could never leave her behind. This night.... this mission. Wrong so wrong! It wasn't supposed to go like this!
◄►Flashback◄►
"So, we're all in agreement? Thursday night will be when we strike. No sooner no later. He has to be taken down no matter what."
Ruka stepped forward her chest stuck out in bravery showing she was not scared no matter the outcome.
"Thursday night.... will be the awakening of a new Era! We will either die trying! Or succeed and let our children truly experience peace."
Her words caused a roar amongst the crowd. She got them excited and filled with vigor. She stepped away as the others grabbed a drink and I walked over to her wanting to have a word.
"Ruka."
She looked up at me. Her eyes softened when she saw who it was.
"Ah...Michael...I still can't seem to process you being here."
I chuckled at her comment. No one would assume that the highest-ranking guard of genshina would be here.
"Father would have a fit even if I weren't here. You and I both know I'd refuse to slaughter any enemies or traitors. It's why I do this in secret. These meetings."
She smiled and nodded then looked up at the moon.
"Are you sure we can trust him? Deangelo, I mean...he's too mouthy. And he can't seem to not let certain information slip."
She looked back at me with a worried face, and I chuckled.
"Deangelo is a strange man indeed. But he wants this rebellion more than anyone else here today. All of us have been lied to and suffered an injustice. So, it's only right for us to seek our peace externally and internally."
She sighed and nodded her head. Then soon Deangelo walked out with a stern look on his face.
"My friend what's wrong? Why the sour look? You out of us all should be celebrating with a beer in hand!"
I amused smiling and my hand flew to his shoulder, but his stern looked stayed. He walked over to the balcony ledge where Ruka stood and then faced us with his head staring at the sky.
"We have a traitor."
Everything went silent. Ruka and I stared at each other before looking back at him. She was first to break the silence.
"I-it can't be!"
"But it is. I gave false information to the group. We will not be attacking on Thursday. We attack tomorrow night. The Only ones who know when we truly will attack are me, you two, Joshua, and Caesar. Everyone else believes it to be Thursday. But us five will go tomorrow night to end this wretched evil."
We stood there in silence. Then this time I broke the peace.
"And our families? If we are to fail, they will be sentenced to slavery or even worse...death!""I've made arrangements. Your wife knows nothing old friend so have no fear. And I've made arrangements in both Caesar, Joshua, and Ruka's cases as well. As long as I say that I forced you all threatening the safety of your families I shall be the only one executed."
My eyes went wide and Ruka's hand flew over her mouth.
I felt my blood boil.
"DEANGELO ARE YOU MAD?!"
He smiled and then looked away down at the river flowing below.
"Maybe....maybe not! If so, then please ensure that I get evaluated before we do this mission!"
He laughed heartily but I was fuming. Ruka put a hand on my shoulder, and I snapped my head towards her.
"Trust him Michael. He knows what he's doing remember?"
I bit my tongue and nodded. That night I slept at home with a million and one worries. I tried to calm myself down but for some reason I couldn't. I've never been like this before. I've never panicked or been nervous. Yet today I was.
As the hour approached for the mission to begin a subtle knock came at my door. When I opened it no one was there. Only a single folded piece of paper on the ground. I looked around a bit but saw no one who would put it there. So, I grabbed it and went back inside. When I opened the little folded piece of paper it read one sentence. My eyes went wide, and my breath hitched.
'No... It can't be.'
My thoughts were interrupted by my phone ringing. It was Ceaser calling to inform me that it was time. I called Deangelo. But he didn't pick up.
"DAMN IT DEANGELO PICK UP! WE HAVE TO ABORT THIS MISSION! GODDAMN TRAITOR WAS RIGHT UNDER OUR FUCKING NOSES!"
He never picked up.
The only thing I could think of as I drove to the meet point was how I was going to get everyone out alive except for her.
When I reached there Deangelo was nowhere in sight. And I couldn't risk telling anyone one else for fear they would never believe me. I ran around looking for Ruka and Deangelo before it was too late.
I needed him to know that the traitor was amongst us five all along!
