With slow strides Rin departed down the hall to his father's throne room and stepped inside, a sheepish grin crossing his face as he rubbed the back of his head. "Hey, dad. What's up?"

His father smiled, his dark red eyes gleaming in the dim light of the throne room as he tapped his fingers against the arm of his chair. Despite being the demon Lord and king of all demons, a blissful expression crossed his face as his eyes turned to glittering stars.

"You came! My little boy actually came to see me!!"

A bead of sweat dripped from Rin's head as he turned his gaze away and held out a hand. "Wrong turn. Bye." He turned and would have briskly escaped the room had Satan not leaped from his chair with the athletics of a cat and swooped him in an inescapable hug.

"NOOO! Don't leave meee!" Satan whined, brushing his own dark head against Rin's.

"Okay, okay! What do you want?" Rin questioned, prying his father from his body.

"Oh! Yes!  I called you here to ask how you're doing!"

"...that's it?"

"Yes."

Rin turned and made a break for the door again, this time only stopped by Satan's hold around his legs as tears streamed down his father's face. "Don't leave me! I'm serious about this!"

"I'm perfectly fine dad! Stop toying with me!"

Rin huffed and crossed his arms as his father let go of his legs and remained on the floor on his hands and knees.

"I'm not toying with you. I really wanted to know how you're doing. You've got to choose your wife soon and hurry up and succeed me." Satan sniffed and rubbed his nose, all of his usual air of sophistication and danger gone in place of that of a harmless child.

Rin rolled his eyes. "Between Lucifer and Amaimon it really doesn't matter which one I choose does it? They're both my mates and my half-siblings so it's not like I have any intention of picking one anytime soon."

"But if you don't pick one you can't take the throne! I want you to take it from me!"

"huh?" Rin took a step back as his father grabbed one of his legs while tears streamed down his face.

"Please take my throne! Take it and become a really cool king like me!"

What cool king? Rin couldn't help but think as he turned his head to avoid his father's gaze.

"...Satan?" A  voice inquired.

When Rin turned his attention to the new voice, his father instantly let go of his leg and rose from the floor.

"What's your report?"

Cold and calculating grey eyes matched Rin's and remained trained on him until his attention returned to Satan as he bowed in front of him. "My Lord," He spoke, "What I have acquired  is for your ears alone."

Rin raised a brow as his father turned to him and waved his hand. "You can leave now. Next time we'll chat longer."

Though Rin wanted to ask what was so important that he couldn't be in the room, his father's eyes no longer held their usual playfulness, and he knew better than to test his patience.

"Yes, sir," he replied.

Rin turned and left the throne room, shutting the double door's behind himself and watching as blue magic appeared before it was replaced with large chains wrapped around a single padlock, barring the door from entry.

He left for his room, ignoring the demons that bowed respectfully in his path and entered his room with a heavy sigh. As he closed his door, Rin's eyes traveled the space of his room. His bed was large and took up the majority of his room leaving the rest of his room to occupy various human contraptions ranging from books and movies to an iron maiden and traps.

Rin picked up a book, one he remembered Lucifer had called a 'light novel', and opened its pages as he sat down on his bed. He sighed as he leaned back and let his head hit the soft fabric of his bed, his eyes busy reading. After a few minutes he groaned, tossing the book and staring at the ceiling.

No matter how many trinkets or items he acquired from Assiah, it simply wasn't the same. He couldn't shake the helplessness that washed over him and threatened to smother him. After all, he was to be the next demon king so why was it that he couldn't visit the one place he desired?

Why was it so forbidden? The question that his parents refused to answer made him sit upright and frown. He couldn't understand what was so bad about the human realm. There was anime, manga, movies and large contraptions that could fly with no effort! Why was it so forbidden to see that magical land that far surpassed anything located in Gehenna?

Rin stood up, utter determination written across his face. "Who cares what they say," he mumbled, quickly snatching up his royal attire.

He quickly changed into fresh clothes that were reserved for special occasions and stormed out. He refused to allow himself to stay complacent any longer. It was time for action.
