Two years prior
"Are you done yet Daera?" The caravan driver yelled out to the forest to the young boy. Barely even nineteen at the time as his eyes wandered as his ruin trail wandered with him. Ruining the immaturity of writing his name in the small pile of snow he found. He had the off feeling as if both he and the driver were being watched since they entered the Gondar Province.
"I'm working on it hold the horses damn!" He yelled, his emotion almost spaced as he pulled his trousers up and tied the string. Looking to his pants to check for his dagger and the pouch of gold he 'unknowingly' stole from a traveling pack of rich men on the road miles back. His hesitant instinct to run kicked in for just a moment when the loud snap of a twig caught his attention. Turning his body to face where the sound came from his eyes met the blind animal. Large in size with claws, teeth, and horns as sharp as knives themselves. Bigger than a horse with no eyes. A large humming sound protruded from one of the three large opened holes that sat on the beasts back.
As Daera watched it its head quickly turned toward him, it's slow movement steady as Daera stud completely still. It's large size and dark skin made Daera shutter slightly at the sight of it. The thought of running raced through his mind to no end as his mind began to space till he spotted the cuts and large almost infected looking wounds around its neck and arms. In his mind it had to be sick. The cuts were so deep and infected it was like that for a while too. It was a fact that it's slow approach was due to the multiple wounds as a clanking sound followed suit. A chain firmly attached to the beasts left hind leg. The chain broken as if it pulled hard against whatever was holding it and ran.
"By the name of-" Daera couldn't bare to speak because of it. The sight of the animals condition was heartbreaking to view. And he was sure the beast was way too sick and broken to go anywhere. He wanted to confer it anyway he could, or mercy kill it so it wouldn't bare to suffer as long as it already had. It was a hard decision to make. Yet before he could think the beast was as close as it could be. It's long snout and sharp teeth no longer frightened him as it rubbed it's snout against his chest as he gently rubbed the sides of its face as another humming sound protruded from it's back, this time the one closest to him as it slowly moved its head back around from where it emerged from.
It's mouth opened widely as it unleashed a loud scream unbearable to Daera's ears, for he was forced to hold them, shutting his eyes all at once as he quintet from the ringing in his ears. Struggling to stand as he opened his eyes to only see the beast struggle to move only to fall back where it wattled and stumbled. It's saddening whines made Daera tear up. It was running from something, or someone of the least. He could hear loud yells of glory as he looked to his right to see shadows move in the distance. As they got closer he could make out the gallops and loud neighs of horses mixed with laughter from many men.
"He's close boys I can smell it's filthy stench from here!" Screamed one of the unknown men.
Daera stud his ground, unsheathing his dagger about to get ready to do whatever he could to defend the injured animal that laid against the tree behind him. Their horses were violent, angry and thirsty to do something that could hurt anyone just by the way they screamed. Mighty horses big enough to match the beasts size in height as they with their men amidst their backs circled them. The look upon the men resembled signs of broken wills bound to do ones bidding without question with hints of sadistic insanity to size with it.
