As the day went by, I sat in Ric's office, watching his clock. The twins and witches were preparing the spells that we needed and I had locked myself away. "You gonna stare at the clock all day?" Ric finally asked. I turned to look at him and that's when he realized what was going on. "You want to break the bond with Landon, but you don't want to welcome another," he said in a matter-of-fact voice. I looked away from him and out the window. Some of the wolves were using their extra senses to play football, the supernatural way. "Art, it's okay," Ric said. I half-way smiled. It seemed that Hope's nickname was catching on. "Have you ever had to make a choice like this?" I asked. He didn't answer immediately, so I turned to look at him.

"Not exactly like this, but I loved Isobel, Jenna, Meredith, Jo, and even Caroline," he said. I just stared at him. I was trying to decipher through this feelings. "You loved them all, even Isobel," I whispered. Ric gave me that half-smile that he was known for. "I know why my dad and you are such close friends. You tell the truth, no matter the feelings," I said. He just stared at me. "Do you think I'm doing the right thing?" I asked. Ric sighed, putting down his pen and the papers he was holding. "Only you can make that decision. I can see the bond between you two, it wouldn't take a supernatural to know something clicked with you and him. But, I do think that sixteen and seventeen is young, especially in the lives both of you will have," he said. I nodded. "I love my parents and I feel horrible for what they are going through," I said. He nodded and frowned. "I am still working that one out. I don't understand because when Katherine and Stefan took the cure they didn't slowly turn back," he said. The frown lines on his face was starting to make him look older. "Ric, don't frown so much, you'll start looking older," I said lightly. He smiled.

"I wonder if their blood is turning back because you activated your powers, or because Damon was turned into a vampire and killed so many people it took him, taking the cure to turn," he said. "That still wouldn't account for why he is a vampire too or that my mother is going back to one," I said. Ric sat there for a moment and then he looked at me. "Oh my," he said. "What?" I asked. He picked his cellphone up and dialed a number. A few seconds later, my parents were in his office. "We think we know why you both are turning," Ric said. They stared at us in confusion and hope.

"When Kai locked Elena into that sleep, Bonnie found a way to undo the spell. Damon killed so many humans when he was a vampire that he had activated his curse. When you both took the cure, it turned you human, but Damon was already slowly turning into a werewolf. The spell that Kai put on Elena had side effects if it were to be manipulated. He not only bonded Elena and Damon together, but since Damon was turning into a supernatural again, so was Elena. I think that Elena and Damon both will be hybrids when this is over," Ric said. His theory was right because every part of my body felt truth ring in those words. "So it wasn't because of me," I said lowly. "It was never because of you," my mother said looking at me. "That's why you couldn't have more," Ric said gently. I frowned. "More what?" I asked. "Siblings. We tried for a while after you were born, but I guess by then it was too late," my father said. I frowned. "You know, I don't think that was all that Kai did. Can Bonnie talk to him?" I asked. "No, we aren't doing that," Damon said quickly. "He didn't tell you what he had, he is hiding something else," I said. Elena looked from Ric to Damon. "We can't afford for this to harm her. Call Bonnie," my mother instructed. Ric was about to pick up the phone when a loud crash sounded from the front of the house. We took off to investigate. When we reached the spot, I stared in horror. There was Ben lying on the floor in a puddle of blood and he wasn't healing. His chest was torn open and his eyes were closed tightly. I saw the intruder and when I locked eyes with it, I saw everything.
