(Erin’s P.O.V.)

Two months and thirteen days. That was how long it had been since I’d seen Harry. Well, with my own eyes at least. These days, he was all over the news with Kristen. But I knew that was just a stunt.

Thomas was getting worse every day, and he was the only reason I was still in California. If it weren’t for him, I would’ve gone back to London a long time ago. I was also afraid to go back to London because I didn’t want to see Harry.

Thomas hated Winston more than anything, but I still had him come occasionally. Some days I needed Winston to be there for me because Thomas was dying and I couldn’t handle it.

“Erin?” Thomas whispered weakly.

“Yeah?”

“Will you tell me a story?” he asked. His eyes didn’t shine like they used to anymore, they were glazed over all the time. It made me sad for him. I wanted him to stay happy.

“Of course. What would you like me to tell you about?”

“Tell me about love,” he said. I furrowed my brows, confused by his request, but I agreed.

“Okay. You want to hear a love story. Once there was a boy named – ”

“Harry!” Thomas said excitedly, cutting me off. I sighed.

“Once there was a boy named Harry. Harry was very cute and funny, and he got all the girls he wanted. Ladies loved him. But it didn’t matter which girls loved him, it matter which girl he loved. He experimented with many girls, trying to find the one that he loved, but he couldn’t find her. All the princesses to were too stuck up, or spoiled, or fake. So he decided to stop looking at the princesses and instead, he looked at the poor girls. He finally found the girl he loved, and her name was…Kristen. But Kristen didn’t love Harry back, so Harry did something terrible. He left her on her own because he couldn’t stand being around her without receiving the same feelings. And when he left, he told the whole kingdom that Kristen had cheated on him, even though this was a lie. And then, Harry went off to marry a princess who he never loved because Kristen couldn’t forgive him. The end.”

Thomas scowled. “That wasn’t a very good story,” he mumbled. I shrugged.

“It’s real.”

“But there wasn’t a happy ending,” he protested.

“I know. Some stories don’t have one,” I pressed. He rolled his eyes.

“All stories have a happy ending. And since that wasn’t happy, it wasn’t the ending,” he said simply. I frowned, thinking about Thomas’s words. His face suddenly went pale and his monitor started beeping like crazy. “I love you Erin. Tell Harry I love him too,” he choked. Nurse Mandy hurried in the room and I sat in my chair, frozen in shock.

“He’s going into a coma, I think this might be the end,” Many said, bustling around. I shook my head, cupping my mouth. Thomas couldn’t die. This wasn’t the end.

“But it’s not happy! It can’t be the end if it isn’t happy!” I shouted. The nurse ignored me and a doctor came in.

“Ma’am, you need to leave immediately,” the doctor told me. I just nodded and walked out, letting myself bust into a complete fit of tears.
