The sun was fully in the sky and the birds outside wouldn't shut up. I groaned and sat up. The couch was one of the worst places to nap.
"Cywus..." I called still sleepy, "I'm awake!"
He immediately appeared in the door way. Cyrus kept onto the couch sending me flying up. I yelped and smiled.
"Hey poppet. Did you sleep well?" He lifted his arm up, but then put it back down. I grinned and nodded.
Cyrus always hugged me and carried me around after I woke up. Why wasn't he today?I leaned in closer to Cyrus but he had to gently push me back. I frowned and looked up to him with the best puppy dog eyes I could muster.
"Cyrus? I want a hug." I begged from next to him. He looked down at me with guilt in his eyes.
"I can't touch you, coda. If I hit your back or chest it'll hurt." I burst into tears. Cyrus holding me was my favorite thing in the world and now he can't even touch me.
I didn't hesitate, I wanted to hug Cyrus. I threw myself into his chest, but it wasn't sweet. My whole body ached and more tears formed in my eyes. I had to push myself away. The tears came out of my eyes and Cyrus had to walk away.
I jumped off the couch and followed him into the kitchen. Cyrus went into one of the cabinets and pulled out eggs, flower, sugar, and many other ingredients that I was unsure about.
I bounced over to the counter and Cyrus pulled a chair up for me to stand on. I gladly climbed up and peered over the counter. Cyrus took two bowls out of the shelves and put them in front of me.
"What are we doing Cyrus?" I asked him.
He tussled my hair, "Haven't you ever made cupcakes?" I squealed and went to hug Cyrus but had to stop myself.
While Cyrus was mixing the dry ingredients I was bouncing up and down.
"Get out of here twerp," He chuckled "I'll call you when it's time to put them in the oven."
I leapt down from the chair and slid with my socks out of the kitchen. I slid around the living area and ran into my bedroom. The characters I was playing with were still in the bin, but I took them out.
This game was different, this game involved leaving my bedroom. I clutched the hero in my hand. My hand was tightly squeezing the action figure. My knuckles were white by the time I was standing in front of the door.
A paper hung on the door that read, "Bell's room stay out"
I pressed the character to my chest and turned the knob. The door swung open revealing a light red room. The walls were covered in posters of animals and places she wanted to go. I didn't move from the doorway.
"Time to put them in the oven!"
I sighed a breath of relief and scampered away from the door. I ran into the kitchen and skidded to a stop when Cyrus lifted me up by the arms. The only place he could hold with hurting my burns. He put me on the counter and handed me a spoon covered in chocolate batter.
"You can clean the spoon," he laughed at me. I put it into my mouth and enjoyed the treat. Cyrus took the pan and put it on top of the oven. I swung my feet, causing blurs of blue socks to streak in the air.
Leaping off the counter, Cyrus handed me the tray of cupcake batter. HE opened the oven and I looked inside. It was red and hot....like fire.
I jumped back and dropped the spoon I was holding. Batter flew everywhere and I gasped. Cyrus snapped into action and knelt next to me. I could't hear what he was sayin, my heartbeat was too loud.
He grabbed my hands and I flinched away. The oven was open and the flames were grabbing at me. I shoved the batter into Cyrus' hands and ran off. I stumbled around and flattened by body on a wall.
"The-the" I pointed at the flames. "Close it cy!"
He put the batter in the oven and slammed the door. My heart rate went down a good amount and my breathing was slowing down. Cyrus explained that it was just the oven. The fire was used to cook things, and I nodded along.
Too take my mind off the flames Cyrus decided to take me down to the river to swim. "The cool water may help heal your burns. Especially because water is your element, it will help heal you."
My hand was wrapped in his as we walked to the river. The water was calling my name and I took off running. Cyrus told me to swim without my shirt so the water would heal my skin quicker. I fiddled with the zipper on my jacket and jumped into the water.
It felt so comfortable in the water. The waves washed over me and fish swam next to me. My skin felt better, like all the burns were gone. I looked down to my stomach and saw that it was scared and irritated, but most of the burns had cleared.
I squealed in excitement and wadded my way out of the water. My fingers were are wrinkly and I was soaked. Cyrus gaped at how quickly my body had healed and I threw my whole body onto his.
He laughed and pushed me back, "You're all wet! And cold!"
It didn't hurt to hug him! I could do it again, and he could carry me again. Cyrus grabbed my hand, "The cupcakes should be done."
I ran up the dirt path, creating little blotches of mud behind me. When I pushed the door open the whole house smelled sweet. I grinned and made my way in. Cyrus took a huge towel from behind the door and wrapped it around me.
"I'm going to open the oven again. Don't panic I won't let the fire get you."
I buried my head into the fluffy towel when the warmth of the oven filled the tree. I grinned when the door closed and looked up from the towel.
Cyrus lifted me by my arms again and placed me back on the wooden counter. He took out frosting and sprinkles and we got to work. He layered on icing and I tossed handfuls of rainbow jimmies onto each cake.
The rest of the day was amazing, but I did miss Bell's cooking. Cyrus wasn't bad, but Bell's was so good!
