When I got home, I barely stopped to pull off my boots before gravitating towards the kitchen.

"Keith? I'm back!" I called for him, but he didn't respond. "Keith?" I dodged into the living room, only to find Keith staring hard at the billboard he had set up. I walked up to him silently. He started as I reached his side.

"Oh! Kristi. I didn't hear you come in..." I laughed.

"Or call for you. Repeatedly." He shot me one of his rare smiles. I turned to see the board. "Thinking about Shiro again?" He nodded. I didn't need to say anything; instead, I reached my arm around his back and leaned my head on his shoulder. "I miss him, too, you know. But we have to move forwards, Keith. Stop looking back." He laughed. I pulled out of the side hug to scowl at him.

"Well, that's all I got, so if you want a better pep talk, you better find it somewhere else." He sighed and shook his head at me, amused.

"You're amazing, you know that, right?" My heart skipped inside my chest. I mean, I know I'm talented in some aspects, but it's completely different to hear it from someone else. I sighed, lost in the thought of how we first met...

I sighed. Too many sad people. Too many black suits, black dresses. I knew it was my mom's funeral, but she is the cheeriest person I know. Knew, I mentally corrected myself. As I worked my way to the edge of the crowd, I could almost feel a large presence approaching me just as I came to a group of people blocking the exit. I silently cursed. Nowhere to hide. That's when a large hand dropped onto my shoulder, startling me. I jumped and whirled around, surprised at who was standing in front of me.

"Oji?" A tall, Japanese man stood in front of me, smiling at me in a laid-back sort of friendly way. It was Shiro, my Ojisan (If you don't speak Japanese, it means Uncle).

"Asuka! I've been looking for you." He got down on his knees to be closer to eye-level with me. "I wanted to ask you if you would come home with me. I filled out the adoption form, but I want your consent first." I stood there, silent for a moment. Shiro and I went way back. He and my mom grew up together and worked at the Garrison together. When she got pregnant with me and Dad disappeared, it was Shiro who took care of her. He Drove her to the hospital once she went into labor and was the first person to hold me, save my mom. He babysat me when my mom had a flight and he was available. Things got more complicated when he took Keith in though. I hadn't seen him in a year and a half and really missed him.

I snapped back to the present when Keith started out of the room.

"Where are you going?" I asked. He paused for a moment to turn and look at me.

"Out." I sighed.

"Out where?" I was getting impatient.

"To the caves. Don't worry, I'll be back in time for supper." He grinned comically. I shook my head.

"Well, I'm coming with you. I need to figure this out. There's a connection here somewhere." I said, waving my arm at the overcrowded billboard. He didn't say anything, he just nodded.

I took a moment to run up to my room and slip into something more comfortable: A grey, body-hugging bodysuit and a loose grey tank top. I pulled my boot back on roughly. After I got changed, we were out the door.
