As the site of the crash came into view, I could tell the craft wasn't human. The entire craft was a dark, musty purple color with trails of a lighter, glowing purple around the contours. It was dusty and scratched up from it's crash landing, so parts of it were unidentifiable, but it didn't matter anyway; the craft wasn't what I was interested in anyways. I was too busy with the white tent set up outside it.

It seemed to be a portable lab of some sort; I wasn't sure what kind though. Maybe medical.

The bike slid to a halt as Keith jumped off, securing the cloth wrapped his mouth. He turned to me with a fiery look burning in his eyes.

"It's Shiro. He's back." I stopped moving, both legs dangling off the edge of the bike.

"You really think so?" I was unsure. It had been so long, could it really be him? Keith nodded. He looked so sure, he had me convinced.

"I need you to stay here with the bike while I go in. It's going to be dangerous and I don't want you getting hurt." I glared at him, but sighed and consented. I respect him, so I'll let it pass this time.

"So basically, I'm the getaway driver." I punched him (lightly) on the shoulder as he turned to leave. "You be careful in there. And keep an eye on those idiots." I nodded towards the trio on the hill who had been scoping out the area themselves. "Probably just some kids from the school sneaking out after curfew, but still, if you're not sure,-" Keith finished the phrase for me,

"-check it out. I know. I'll keep an eye on them." He surprised me with a quick hug, but I assumed it was because he was excited. We hadn't seen Shiro in so long, he hardly felt real anymore. My mind began to drift, reversing time to the last moments I had spent with him.

"I'll be fine Kristi. Don't worry." I wiped away the tears in my eyes and tried to smile back at him.

"But what if something happens to you? How could I live without you?"  He laughed under his breath and pulled me into a hug.

"I will always come back for you sweetheart. And if I don't I know you and Keith can be strong without me." He pulled away and tilted my chin up with his hand to look me in the eye. When I straightened up, I was only a few inches shorter than him. "I need to go, or I'll miss the take off." He placed a light kiss on top of my head. "I'll be fine." For the first time since I found out about his new mission, a real smile cracked across my face.

"You've said that already."  He chuckled, louder this time.

"I know. I say that because it's true. Now go back inside, Keith will be getting bored. You can watch the launch from the TV." I grabbed one last hug before I consented and slipped back inside, watching him ride off into the distance from behind the screen door.

I had gotten so caught up in my memories that I forgot the presence. I was startled back to real life by the sound of gunshots and yelling. I saw Keith and the three kids from the Barracks come storming out of the makeshift building with what looked like a corpse. I gasped from my perch on the back of his bike when I saw it was Shiro. Keith slung him over the back and grabbed my hand to reassure me.

"He's not dead, just out cold. We need to get him back to my place." I gave his hand a squeeze and scooted back a little, ducking when Keith swung his leg over the bike. I quickly recognized Lance and Hunk, but they had to introduce me to their significantly smaller friend, Pidge. It wasn't hard for me to tell that Pidge wasn't really "Pidge". She (I'm sorry, HE) was actually Katie Holt, a childhood friend of mine. Her brother and father were on the mission that Shiro disappeared on. In fact, they all had disappeared. I kept my mouth shut when I recognized her though. Katie was a smart girl, and if she assumed a false identity, I trusted her with that. Whatever it was, it was for the greater good.

They all piled onto the bike behind Keith and me, weighing us down significantly.

"Keith, are they ALL coming with us? We won't be able to get Shiro home nearly as fast." He sighed and nodded grimly.

"They apparently didn't think to bring their own ride." He revved the engine impatiently. "Everyone settled back there?"

"Hunk keeps pushing me off the edge." Lance whined. Keith and I groaned in unison. I leaned forwards to whisper in his ear.

"I'm all for losing him on the way home, and we should get going anyway, those doctors don't look to happy that we kidnapped their patient." I grimaced at the sight of the doctors and nurses rushing towards us with needles in hand.

"Yeah, let's go."

I clenched my arms around his waist as he took off, trying to block out the petrified screaming behind me. I assume Lance, Hunk, and Ka-PIDGE, I said Pidge, aren't used to riding this fast. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see two bikes gaining on us and I motioned to Keith that we needed to pick up the pace. He shouted back to Hunk.

"Big man, lean left!" Hunk leaned and we swung around the bank of the hill above us. I was poised, crouching low to jump. I leapt, spun, and kicked the man off, commandeering it for myself. I heard Keith shout again to Hunk to lean in the other direction, taking out the other bike. He locked eyes with me and I saluted.

"See you back home!" I sped off, my slim figure (and the fact I didn't have three tag-alongs on the back) made me significantly faster than them, so I enjoyed the wind whipping through my hair, tangling it beyond control.
